  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 61, No. 22

    Taken from Bob Goff’s “Everybody, Always” 

    “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another,” (John 13:34-35).

    It’s easy to love kind, lovely, humble people. I mean, who wouldn’t? These are the ones I’ve spent much of my life loving. Loving the people who are easy to love made me feel like I was really good at it. Because the people I loved were kind and wonderful, they made sure they told me what a great job I was doing loving them.

    What I’ve come to realize, though, is that I was avoiding the people I didn’t understand and the ones who lived differently than me. Here’s why: some of them creep me out. Sure, I was polite to them, but sadly, I’ve spent my whole life avoiding the people Jesus spent His whole life engaging. God’s idea isn’t that we would just give and receive love but that we could actually become love. The way we do this can be summarized like this:

    His plan is that we would love everybody, always.

    People who are becoming love see the beauty in others even when their off-putting behavior makes for a pretty weird mask. What Jesus told His friends can be summed up in this way: He wants us to love everybody, always—and start with the people who creep us out. The truth is, we probably creep them out as much as they do us.

    Are there people you should give a wide berth to? You bet. There are people in my life and yours who are unsafe, toxic, and delight in sowing discord wherever they go. God gave us discernment, and we should use it as we live our lives. He’s also given us love and understanding and kindness and the ability to forgive, which have power we often leave untapped. There’s a difference between good judgment and living in judgment. The trick is to use lots of the first and to go a little lighter on the second if we want to live the big life Jesus talked about.

  • Prime Time – Vol. 61, No. 22

    I’m looking forward to a good group of you going with me to the Missouri History Museum on Wednesday, November 17. This is a FREE event, and we will see the display of St. Louis Sound. After the museum, we will go to Zia’s for lunch.

    Please sign up in the Connection Center and invite your friends! The bus will leave at 10:00 a.m.

    On Saturday, December 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. we will traverse to Christmas Traditions in downtown St. Charles. Unfortunately, we were only able to get a reservation for 10 people at Lewis & Clark’s as they are not seating large groups during the Christmas season. It would be beneficial if 2 to 4 of you would get together and make your own separate reservations at Lewis and Clark, so we could all be there together.

    After lunch, we will go out and see all the variations of Santa from different nations and watch the parade. There is also great shopping, fire pits, hot chocolate, and carriage rides! The signup sheet is in the Connection Center.

  • Family Front – Vol. 61, No. 21

    Happy Fall!

    Put Trunk or Treat on your calendar for Sunday, October 31, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. There is SO MUCH to do and we have a spot for you: help setup, decorate a trunk to give out candy, greet people, run a game in the courtyard, face paint, clean up, and shuttle guests from various parking lots. The decorated car trunks only will be giving out candy this year. Please bring TONS of candy and put it in the designated bin in the Welcome Center.  Let’s meet and serve our community BOOOO-tifully on October 31! Then you have the evening free to meet YOUR community of trick-or-treaters.

    Parents’ Night Out

    Parents’ Night Out is back again Friday, December 10, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Bring your kids – ages 2 years old through 5th grade – for a fun night with friends and shopping in our free Christmas store while parents have a night out for only $5 per child. Pizza will be provided for supper for workers and kids. Sign-up sheets will be available next month. Donations for new items to offer in the Christmas store are welcome anytime. Thank you!

    Why We Sing

    I recently came across an article in a professional magazine for Worship Leaders and thought it was very interesting and worth condensing to share in this issue of The Forerunner.

    We enjoy singing.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing connects us to one another.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing is a way of serving the Lord.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing impacts my mind (lyrics teach truths and Biblical values.)

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing is a way of our giving back to God.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing is a form of prayer.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing is tied to the promises of God.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing forces us to be physically involved when we express worship.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing is something the Bible commands us to do.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    Singing effects our emotions.

    But that’s not why we sing.

     

    WHY do we sing?

    God deserves our praise. We choose to sing. How dare we arrogantly decide that He should not receive something that He declares He wants. Do we know better than He does whether the sound we make is good enough when He says it is? Who are we to judge our worship – when that right belongs only to Him.

    So – you have reason to sing!

  • Chi Alpha News – Vol. 61, No. 21

    Trivia Night Fundraiser

    Join us on Saturday, November 6 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. for a night of trivia, prizes, silent auction, and a LOT of fun and food! The cost is only $80 for a table of 8. Sign up for a table in the Connection Center or by contacting Andrew – andrew@feefeebc.org. Childcare will be available by reservation only. All the money raised that night will go towards the youth going on our mission trip to Washington DC next summer!

    If you have items that you would like to donate for our Silent Auction or Door Prizes, we are taking donations! Items such as sports tickets, gift baskets, gift cards, and home items are always good draws. You can drop off donations in the church office.

    Students that want to earn money towards the mission trip MUST work at this event. Students can sign up to work in the Rafters.

  • A Word From Pastor Zach – Vol. 61, No. 21

    Church Family,

    Here at Fee Fee, we want to make sure that we are taking the Gospel to both our local neighborhoods and to the nations. We try to ensure that we have a missional impact in our local community and also that we are part of global missions as well. In the next few weeks, we have opportunities to participate in both local and global missions.

    First, globally, we are about to start our Operation Christmas Child initiative. This global missions project is pretty simple: pick up a shoe box from our church and then pack it with toys and Christmas presents for a child who lives in an under-resourced country overseas. You can pick up your box starting on October 20. The deadline to bring back your box so it can get shipped overseas in time for Christmas is November 17.

    I love OCC because it is a great way to make connections with children and their families and get opportunities to share the Gospel with them. I want to encourage you to pray about filling up a box and then praying for the child who is receiving it to be open to receiving the greatest gift of all this Christmas: salvation through faith in Christ!

    Locally, I want to share with you about an incredible outreach opportunity we will have on October 31.  After a one-year hiatus because of the pandemic, we are going to have our Trunk or Treat again! This is a huge outreach event to our local community. We had close to a thousand people walk through our church parking lot two years ago. I want to encourage you to sign up to volunteer in some way.

    I want to challenge each person in our church to do three things as we prepare for this event:

    1. Pray – Pray that God will bless this outreach event and that many people in our community would come and be exposed to the Gospel.

    2. Invite – Personally extend an invitation to a few different people in your circle of influence.

    3. Serve – From buying (LOTS OF) candy, to setting up your car as a trunk, to running a game, to greeting, to helping set up or tear down, there are so many different ways to volunteer. Would you be willing to serve and help make this event a success?

    Join me in praying that we have both a local and global impact for the Gospel. We want to make much of Jesus from our neighborhoods to the nations! Let’s pray that both Operation Christmas Child and Trunk or Treat open up avenues for Gospel conversations.
