  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 61, No. 10

    Taken from L.B. Cowman’s “Streams in the Desert,” Zondervan Updated Edition

    “After forty years had passed on, an angel appeared to Moses…in the desert…Then the Lord said to him, ‘…Now come, I will send you back to Egypt,” (Acts 7:30, 33-34).

    Often the Lord calls us aside from our work for a season and asks us to be still and learn before we go out again to minister. And the hours spent waiting are not lost time.

    An ancient knight once realized, as he was fleeing from his enemies, that his horse needed a shoe replaced. The prudent course of action seemed to be to hurry on without delay. Yet higher wisdom told him to stop for a few minutes at the blacksmith’s along the road. Although he heard the galloping hooves of the enemies’ horses close behind, he waited until his steed was reshod before continuing his escape. Just as the enemy appeared, only a hundred yards away, he jumped into the saddle and dashed away with the swiftness of the wind. Then he knew his stopping had actually hastened his escape.

    Quite often God will ask us to wait before we go, so we may fully recover from our last mission before entering the next stage of our journey and work.

    If you are a student who is graduating from High School or College this year, we want to celebrate you! On Sunday, June 6 during the 11:00 a.m. service we will be honoring our graduates and their amazing achievements from this year.   • Family Front – Vol. 61, No. 10

    Church-Wide Movie Night, May 21 at 7:30 p.m.

    Join us in the courtyard on Friday night, May 21, we will be watching the new Disney movie, Raya and the Last Dragon! Bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs and your own drinks as we watch this exciting new release and have fun together! We will even provide the popcorn!

    Preschool Care Needed

    You should see the smiles on kids’ faces when they come to play with their friends at church! A few are even sad to leave our church when it is time to go home! Do you want to be part of caring for these little ones? If you can give your time to care for preschoolers during one worship service each month, please contact Kathy (kathy@feefeebc.org). We need you! You will be doing a great service for our families and for your church!

    VBS Wilderness Escape, July 26-30, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    Would you love to be a tribe leader to lead the children and preschoolers? Or maybe an Israelite Tent Host, where kids will learn desert life in the Israelite camp through various crafts and skills like: sandal stitcher, butter churner, weaver, and musician? Not sure where you fit in? Don’t worry! We have a place for you! Let’s have fun together as we show kids how God guides and provides in this unique way.  A lot of hands will make this VBS a successful one! Sign up today to help in any of these ways. Please pray for the volunteers and kids as all the details fall into place for VBS 2021!

    Can you help us gather supplies for VBS? We will be using A LOT of newspaper. So if you have any old newspapers, please bring them to me and we will put them to good use!

    Sports Crusaders Basketball Camp, July 26-30, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

    In 2019, 4 children came to know Christ through our basketball camp! What a tremendous ministry this is for our kids to enjoy and know Christ in a fun and unique way. We will need housing for this college team that leads the basketball camp, which includes bed and breakfast. We will also need some gift cards or cash for meals during the week. If you or your Bible Study groups can help with these needs, please see me. Thank you for your generosity. Please be in prayer for the workers, the children who will attend, and the Sports Crusaders who will lead the basketball camp.

    Registration for VBS and Sports Camp is available on our website: feefeebc.org/free-vbs-fee-fee/ or feefeebc.org/sports-crusaders/.  There will be a limit to registration for both VBS and Sports Camp. The maximum registration for basketball camp is 40 kids, so register early. (The same registration form can be used for both events).

    Fee Fee Baptist, you are always so generous with your gifts of supplies and money when a need arises in the Children’s Ministry. THANK YOU for providing those gifts! You are a generous people! We are truly blessed!

    Fee Fee Scholarships Deadline

    The 2021-2022 Fee Fee Scholarship Applications are due soon! All Fee Fee members that are going to be enrolled in college in the Fall 2021 term, make sure to fill out a Scholarship Application and get two letters of reference. You can grab the application and information packets at the church at the Connection Center or download them from the website: https://feefeebc.org/downloads/. Scholarship applications and all needed documents are due by Sunday, May 23. If you have any questions, contact Andrew (andrew@feefeebc.org).

    Backpack Ministry Thanks

    Thank you to everyone that gave to our Backpack Ministry this year! During this school year we were able to provide around 450 backpacks full of food to kids in the Pattonville School District. Thank you so much for your commitment to support this ministry. During the summer, when there is no school, we take a break from this ministry. But be ready for it to kick back off in the fall!

    Upcoming Mobile Markets

    Due to the Memorial Day holiday, there will NOT be a Mobile Market on Monday, May 31. The upcoming Mobile Markets will be June 14 and 28. If you are in need of food the week of Memorial Day, St. Louis Area Foodbank does offer many other Mobile Markets each week in other locations. You can visit their website (stlfoodbank.org) to find them.

  • Music Musings – Vol. 61, No. 10

    Introduction to David Wallace Crowder

    This popular Christian contemporary artist known simply as Crowder grew up listening to Elvis, Willie Nelson, Olivia Newton John, and Bill Gaither. Now that’s diversity!!! David was a student at Baylor University when his musical career began. With Baylor being a Christian university, David was surprised to find out that many of the students didn’t attend church. So he and friend Chris Seay started University Baptist Church to make church something the 20-something students would come to, enjoy, and relate.

    David had a career with the David Crowder Band for several years and is now into solo projects. He has a rather new, popular single, Good God, Almighty. It is a catchy worship piece that celebrates the goodness of God, an anthem that is meant to be sung by congregations collectively. Good God, Almighty is an upbeat song about celebrating the mercy of God and our opportunity to praise Him! As David says, “this song is just some good old-fashioned group singing! And what I love about that is it is a group of people singing in harmony together. That’s what we need and what I’m praying for, some harmony and togetherness.”

  • Bible Study Corner – Vol. 61, No. 10

    It is so exciting to see our Sunday morning Bible classes back to full capacity. If you have not come back yet, I encourage you to do so. It is exciting, challenging, and life changing to study the Bible together. Hope to see you Sunday!

  • Prime Time – Vol. 61, No. 10

    I just got off the bus from our zoo trip. We had a beautiful day, great fellowship and delicious food. Take your grandkids to see the dinosaur exhibit. It is very good! Huck and Finn, the grizzlies, were putting on quite a water show. Nothing compares to the free St. Louis zoo. If you haven’t gone yet this year, make a plan!

    Our next trip is on Friday, June 11. We will be heading to Perryville, Missouri at 10:00 a.m. We will visit several historic sites, including a miniature Vietnam War wall and the new military museum. Lunch will be at Stonie’s Sausage Shop. After you eat, I’m sure you will want to bring something home with you. Yum!

    Seems like our reading pace has slowed a whole bunch as we are only reading a chapter a day in Isaiah. I don’t know about you, but I read the chapter and then get out my commentary. Hope you are joining the church in continuing to read the Bible together.

  • A Word From Pastor Zach – Vol. 61, No. 10

    At the time of my writing this article (May 12), the standing of the National League Central must look pretty nice to Cardinals fans. The Cardinals are currently in first in the NL Central and they actually have the best overall record in all of Major League Baseball. Sadly, the Pittsburgh Pirates are in last place in the Central and have the fifth worst record in the entire league. Things aren’t looking too great for Pirates fans (I am sure you feel really sorry for me!).

    Why do I mention those standings? Well, remarkably enough, two weeks ago, the Pirates actually had a better record than the Cardinals. If you looked at the standings today, you would never have believed that. A lot can change in just a couple of weeks.

    The idea of a lot changing over just a few weeks is not just limited to baseball. The same can definitely be true about our spiritual lives. We just finished up our Grounded initiative and read through the entire New Testament. I am so encouraged by the many stories I have heard from our people of how God has worked throughout this spring as we engaged with His Word together. However, we are now just a few weeks past that time. Are you staying disciplined in your reading of Scripture?

    If you have started to fall out of the habit, jump into our Isaiah reading plan! We are reading one chapter a day, five days a week. Join in and be a part of that reading plan! Sign up to be in a Transformation Group to help hold you accountable!

    This idea isn’t just limited to reading Scripture. Think about other areas of your walk with Christ:

    What would happen to your walk with Christ if you committed to having a quiet time every day with him over the next two weeks?

    What would happen to your zeal for evangelism if you prayed for a different lost person every day for the next two weeks?

    What would happen on your social media feed if you committed to posting Scripture or something related to your faith every day for the next two weeks?

    What would happen if you made sure not to miss a church service or Bible study class over the next few weeks?

    The standings in the NL Central, and all of baseball, have changed a lot in the last few weeks. Our spiritual lives can change drastically as well. It pains me to say this, but we all need to take steps when it comes to our walk with Christ to make sure we are more like the Cardinals and less like the Pirates.

    God can do a lot in our lives over the next few weeks. Let’s make a decision to focus on Christ!

    “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,” (Joel 2:32).

    So why don’t I call on His name? Why do I run to this person or that person, when God is so near and will hear my faintest call? Why do I sit down to plot my own course and make my own plans? Why don’t I immediately place myself and my burden on the Lord?

    Straight ahead is the best way to run, so why don’t I run directly to the living God? Instead, I look in vain for deliverance everywhere else, but with God I will find it. With Him I have His royal promise: “[I] will be saved.” And with Him I never need to ask if I may call on Him or not, for the word “everyone” is all encompassing. It includes me and means anybody and everybody who calls upon His name. Therefore I will trust in this verse and will immediately call on the glorious Lord who has made such a great promise.

    My situation is urgent, and I cannot see how I will ever be delivered. Yet this is not my concern, for He who made the promise will find a way to keep it. My part is simply to obey His commands, not to direct His ways. I am His servant, not His advisor. I call upon Him and He will deliver me. —Charles H. Spurgeon

  • A Word From Pastor Zach – Vol. 61, No. 9

    I love the fact that we are a multi-generational church. I believe there is a such a benefit from different generations gathering together and worshipping with one another. We can learn from each other and encourage each other. It is a key strength of our church.

    With that being said, there are still key ministries that are focused on particular age groups. It’s important to have rock solid children, youth, and adult ministries. This summer, we will have a few different opportunities to have specific ministry events for different age groups. You’ll be hearing more about Vacation Bible School for our kids, and both Summer Blast and Disciple Now for our youth, from Kathy and Kyle. However, I wanted to share more in detail about our first Legacy Weekend for senior adults.

    On May 22-23, we are going to have a special weekend dedicated towards ministering to our senior adults. This weekend is going to consist of some music and fun on Saturday night. Then, on Sunday, we are going to have a guest speaker preach in our both of our services. That guest speaker will be Dr. Claude Cone, one of the key mentors in my life.

    Dr. Cone is the former Director of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico and he has been preaching and teaching God’s Word for over sixty years! Dr. Cone will be sharing a devotion on Saturday night and preaching a great message in both of our services on Sunday. This weekend of ministry is going to be a huge blessing as he challenges our entire church to live a life that will leave a Gospel legacy!

    When I was called into ministry at 18, Dr. Cone discipled me and gave me opportunities to preach every time I came back into town from college. I have been so thankful for his investment in my life and I am grateful that he is coming to minister to our church as well.

    I want to encourage everyone 55+ to sign up to be a part of our Legacy Weekend. It is going to be a lot of fun, and I know you are going to be blessed by Dr. Cone!

    In addition to that, I want to encourage you stay faithful in our Bible reading. While we are wrapping up the New Testament on May 7, we will start reading through Isaiah as a church on May 10. We will be reading a chapter a day of Isaiah, Monday through Friday, throughout the summer. It is so important to stay engaged in God’s Word! Make sure you grab a bookmark the next time you are at church so you can follow along and keep up the discipline of a daily quiet time with the Lord.

    Let’s pray for Dr. Cone and our Legacy Weekend. I can’t wait to see how God works through it!
