  • Family Front – Vol. 61, No. 9

    Preschool Care Needed

    We are having more and more people returning to in-person worship so that means more children are needing care. Therefore that also means that loving, caring adults and teens are needed to help! If you can give your time during one worship service each month to care for our preschoolers, please contact Kathy (kathy@feefeebc.org). You will be doing a great service for our families and your church!

    AWANA Club Awards Night is May 19 at 6:00 p.m.

    Church-Wide Movie Night, May 21 at 7:30 p.m.

    Join us in the courtyard on Friday night, May 21, we will be watching the new Disney movie, Raya and the Last Dragon! Bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs and your own drinks as we watch this exciting new release and have fun together! We will even provide the popcorn!

    VBS Wilderness Escape, July 26-30, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    Would you love to be a tribe leader to lead the children and preschoolers? Or maybe an Israelite Tent Host, where kids will learn desert life in the Israelite camp through various crafts and skills like: sandal stitcher, butter churner, weaver, and musician? Not sure where you fit in? Don’t worry! We have a place for you! Let’s have fun together as we show kids how God guides and provides in this unique way.

    Can you help us gather supplies for VBS? We will be using A LOT of newspaper. So if you have any old newspapers, please bring them to me and we will put them to good use! A more extensive list will be provided next month listing all the supplies we will need help gathering for VBS.

    A lot of hands will make this VBS a successful one! Sign up today to help in any of these ways. Please pray for the volunteers and kids as all the details fall into place for VBS 2021!

    Sports Crusaders Basketball Camp, July 26-30, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

    Hey sports fans!! Have you missed out on sports this last year? Well, we have an opportunity for you! We will be hosting our annual basketball camp with the Sports Crusaders the same week as VBS, and we need some help to make this a successful event for our kids. Most of the needs will be helping to take care of our camp coaches and leaders, who are college students, as they work hard leading our kids in the sport. Housing, which includes bed and breakfast, and meal gift cards for other meals are the things we need help with for that week.

    Please be in prayer for the workers, the children who will attend, and the Sports Crusaders, who will lead the basketball camp.

  • Bible Study Corner – Vol. 61, No. 9

    Almost all Bible Study classes are back in person. Hope you will join us on Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m.

    As you know, we will complete our Grounded readings on May 7. For those who wish to continue, we will begin reading one chapter a day, Monday through Friday, from the book of Isaiah beginning May 10. So grab your commentaries and join us! There are a lot of prophecies (or doom and destruction) for the nation of Israel, but there are also a lot of prophecies about Jesus! You do not need to sign up or for this summer reading challenge, but if you would like to join a Marco Polo group to discuss what you have read, please contact Gloria. You can also join Gloria live on Facebook on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. for a discussion of what we have read. Pastor Zach will be preaching from Isaiah in a sermon series this summer, so this will help to prepare you for that series. I invite you to challenge yourself with these readings.

    Isaiah Reading Plan

    The Isaiah Reading Plan starts on May 10, so pick up your bookmark or reading plan sheet in the Welcome Center or foyer on campus, or download from our website at: https://feefeebc.org/downloads/.

  • Prime Time – Vol. 61, No. 9

    We had a great response to our first two activities since we resumed bimonthly events. A group of 24 went to Kimmswick, and 19 to Zia’s with a quick stop at the Art Museum. I had several of you complain about still being hungry when we left…just kidding!

    Our next trip to the zoo on May 12 will be slightly more physically demanding, although we will make it as short of a distance as possible. The bus will drop you off in front of the north entrance; the dinosaur exhibit is where the Children’s Zoo was previously located. That is neither a difficult nor long walk. For those who want to visit the reptile and insect exhibit, it is nearby, as are the polar bear, grizzlies, puffins and penguins. The zoo does require you to wear a mask at all times. The cost of this exhibit is $5.95. The exhibit has 16 different groupings of animatronic and stationary dinosaurs. After the zoo, we will head down to the Spaghetti Factory on the Landing for lunch.

    A sign up sheet for the banquet for Legacy weekend is available in the Connection Center. The deadline is May 17, so that the food can be ordered. It’s going to be a fun night with music from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, along with an intro from our speaker on Sunday morning who will challenge us to “Have a Blast While We Last!”

    Blood Drive, May 14

    We need your blood! We still have spots left for our blood drive on Friday, May 14 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center.     Upcoming Mobile Markets

    Free groceries are still being given out every other Monday! Could you use some free groceries? Or do you know someone who does? Then have them come through our parking lot on Monday, May 17 from 10:00 a.m. until noon (or until the food runs out). We ask that you have space in your vehicle for the food items and that you not leave your vehicle during the distribution. We are also signed up for Mobile Markets with St. Louis Area Foodbank on June 14 and 28 (NOTE: St. Louis Area Foodbank is closed on May 31, Memorial Day, so we will NOT have a Mobile Market that day).     Fee Fee Scholarships

    The 2021-2022 Fee Fee Scholarship Applications are now available! All Fee Fee members that are going to be enrolled in college in the Fall 2021 term, make sure to fill out a Scholarship Application and get two letters of reference. You can grab the application and information packets at the church or download them from the website: https://feefeebc.org/downloads/. Scholarship applications and all needed documents are due by Sunday, May 23rd. If you have any questions, contact Andrew (andrew@feefeebc.org).

    Graduation Sunday

    If your student is graduating from High School or College this year, we want to celebrate them! On Sunday, June 6 we will be holding our annual Graduation Sunday celebration during the 11:00 a.m. service. If you would like your student to be recognized, please send the following to Kyle (kyle@feefeebc.org): graduate’s name, recent headshot, name/location of school, and the degree that was earned (college only). Even if they are unable to attend in person, we would still love to celebrate every graduate and all they have accomplished. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 28, so don’t delay!

  • Music Musings – Vol. 61, No. 9

    First Concert of the Season is Approaching

    Our Summer Concerts are at our doorstep and the first one is set to go on Sunday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. We will feature music missionary Ken Davidson. Ken currently works at a Chinese university where he oversees a music degree including music technology and recording arts.

    In addition to music missions, Ken is a worship leader, audio engineer, and videographer. Ken is co-founder of Heart Sounds International, which exists to encourage the development of worship music through training native musicians in cultures where Christ followers are restricted or even persecuted.

This is a free event, but reservations are necessary for attending this event. There will be an opportunity to give a love offering and to purchase CDs of the music of various cultures. Please invite friends and other acquaintances to attend this event.

    A Biblical Example of Music Ministry

    1 Samuel 16:21-23 tells the story. David walked bravely carrying his primitive stringed instrument into a place of darkness inhabited by King Saul. Saul was willing to try anything to free himself from the depths of depression that plagued him. As the story unfolds, we find that David’s music touched this tormented man. Saul was relieved as the evil presence departed from him. David’s music not only provided relief, but also brought love from this man for the young shepherd boy whose music had touched his soul.

    When you sing beautifully, or less beautifully, you are making melody in your heart to the Lord. So, sing out to bring joy to the hosts of heaven.

    Christ provides soul music for us. He will fill you with a life free of depression and despair. We, His sheep, need the music of His voice. Let’s rejoice in God together.

  • A Word From Pastor Zach – Vol. 61, No. 8

    First of all, I want to start by simply saying “thank you!” We have something pretty exciting to celebrate:

    We not only reached our Annie Armstrong offering goal, we exceeded it by over 10%!!!!!!

     At the time of the writing of this Forerunner article, we have brought in $14,513 for this special offering. I thought our goal of $13,000 was pretty audacious, and I am so thankful for our church, which sacrificially gave to this important cause. 100% of this offering goes to support church planters and missionaries here in North America.

    It is so important for us to continue to spread the hope of Jesus to those who desperately need it. There was a fascinating article written by a nonbeliever in England that highlights this need. John Harris, in a column for the Guardian, wrote that, as an irreligious person, this pandemic has been very difficult for him to understand. He said, “For many of us, life without God has turned out to be life without fellowship and shared meaning – and in the midst of the most disorienting, debilitating crisis most of us have ever known, that social tragedy now cries out for action.”

    Harris pointed out that across 95 different countries, Googling the word “prayer” increased by 50%. He uses this as evidence that people need something more. Harris, and so many secularists like him, are realizing that they need answers to life’s most difficult questions.

    However, what is heartbreaking is that Harris’ answer to this issue is to create a community modeled after the church. He argues that “religion, after all, often comes down to people doing things together, whatever the transcendental meaning attributed to it: they sing, they pray, they eat together.”

    Do you see how he is missing out on the true reason that we gather together as a church? Christianity is so much more than just a social club where we do things together. It is all about a relationship with the one true God! It is about celebrating new life through the Gospel!

    People are longing for more; Harris makes that clear. However, he incorrectly posits what it is that makes our church a community. His article is a compelling piece of evidence that we need to clearly articulate the truth of the Gospel. We need to continue to have a life-giving community that gathers together and strengthens one another in the midst of a crisis. However, we also need to clearly and explicitly explain why we are gathering together: because of Jesus!

    Please join me in praying for the many lost people around who are desperately searching for something more. And please join me in praying for opportunities to share the truth of the Gospel with them!

    Thank you for giving sacrificially to Annie Armstrong. Now, let’s pray about opportunities to give the truth of the Gospel to those around us that are looking for hope!

  • Prime Time – Vol. 61, No. 8

    I am so enjoying the spring weather and the sunshine! It’s nice to sit outside and absorb that heavenly sunlight. It’s also nice to be able to be active again. Our next activity is a trip to the Science Center to view the mummy exhibit. Alternatively, you can visit the OmniMax theater to watch Back From The Brink about animals species saved from extinction. The Mummies of the World exhibit is the largest collection of real mummies and related artifacts. It is senior day, but prices are not currently listed on the website. Lunch will be at Zia’s! As always, the bus will leave at 10:00 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

    I know many of you have been following along in the Grounded reading plan, which we will complete on May 7. Several of you have even participated in Marco Polo groups. Congrats to all who have accepted and met this challenge. Several of you have expressed the desire to continue, and while our plans are not quite finalized, I can share basic info with you. After our completion of the New Testament, for two weeks we will go back and revisit ten significant scriptures that we would like to spend a little more time studying. Next, Pastor Zach will be preaching from the book of Isaiah during the summer, so we will read the book of Isaiah, one chapter a day, starting May 24. In September, we will begin the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Old Testament, which we will complete by reading two chapters a day Monday-Friday until the end of the year. There will not be a formal sign-up, but I am hoping that many of you will continue the habit of reading scripture daily. Getting the Word into us is exactly what God commands us to do to equip us to face the world with love each day.

    Finally, mark your calendars for Saturday, May 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We are going to kick off Legacy Weekend with a party! We will eat a yummy catered dinner, hear a short devotional from Dr. Ross, and be entertained by a group performing music from the 40s, 50s and 60s. Don’t miss out on the fun!

  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 61, No. 8

    He will do this, (Psalm 37:5).

    I once believed that after I prayed, it was my responsibility to do everything in my power to bring about the answer. Yet God taught me a better way and showed me that self-effort always hinders His work. He also revealed that when I prayed and had confident trust in Him for something, He simply wanted me to wait in an attitude of praise and do only what he told me. Sitting still, doing nothing except trusting in the Lord, causes a feeling of uncertainty, and there is often a tremendous temptation to take the battle into our own hands.

    We all know how difficult it is to rescue a drowning person he tries to help their rescuer, and it is equally difficult for the Lord to fight our battles for us when we insist upon trying to fight ourselves. It is not that God will not but that He cannot, for our interference hinders His work.

    Spiritual forces cannot work while we are trusting earthly forces.

    Often we fail to give God an opportunity to work, not realizing that it takes time for Him to answer prayer. It takes time for God to color a rose or to grow a great oak tree. And it takes time for Him to make bread from wheat fields. He takes the soil, then grinds and softens it. He enriches it and wets it with rain showers and with dew. Then He brings the warmth of life to the small blade of grass, later grows the stalk and the amber grain, and finally provides bread for the hungry.

    All this takes time. Therefore we sow the seed, till the ground, and then wait and trust until God’s purpose has been fulfilled. We understand this principle when it comes to planting a field, and we need to learn the same lesson regarding our prayer life. It takes time for God to answer prayer.
