    Blood Drive, July 14

    The Red Cross is running very low on blood donations, so we need you to sign up to donate at our next Blood Drive on Wednesday, July 14th from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. Simply go to our site, https://feefeebc.org/blooddrive/, click on the Register Here link, and schedule your donation. You can also call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). The drive will be held in the Family Life Center, and everyone donating can drive around to the back of the church and park in the lot by the gym and enter through the gym doors. On the blood drive page on the church website you can find some helpful info about donating, including who can donate and how to donate. If you have any questions about this, please contact Andrew (andrew@feefeebc.org).

    Minneapolis Mission Trip

    Our team of students and adult volunteers are preparing to leave for Minneapolis in just a handful of days. Please be in prayer for these individuals as they are selflessly giving up a portion of their summer to go and be the hands and feet of Jesus. We will be having a special send off and time of prayer at the beginning of the 11:00 a.m. service on Sunday, June 20. Please join us, and as always, thank you for your continued support of our student ministry!

    DNOW Registration is Open!!

    DNOW is back this summer and we are so excited for what God has in store for our students this summer. Our theme for the 2021 is “No Filter,” and we will be learning how God has designed us to stand out, and not to be living how the world tells us we should. DNOW will take place July 23-25, and will be a weekend filled with music, games, fellowship, service projects, and the chance to build a great community with other students. The cost for the weekend is $40.00. A $10.00 deposit will be due by the registration deadline of July 11. You can register by filling out the form in The Rafters or on our website at dnow.feefeebc.org. We hope you will join us for this amazing weekend and invite your friends!

  • A Word From Pastor Zach – Vol. 61, No. 12

    We have been reading through the book of Isaiah as a church this summer. In fact, on Sunday, June 20, I will be starting a sermon series in this book. The series is called “God is…” and we will be looking at different characteristics of God that are evident throughout this important Old Testament book.

    When you think about how to describe God, what words come to your mind? Loving? Holy? Righteous? Just? Merciful? Kind? Forgiving? Powerful? God has so many different attributes that give us a glimpse of who He is. It is going to be a fun journey this summer looking at some of these characteristics.

    As you might have guessed, I am pretty big fan of the prophet Isaiah (my firstborn does bear his name)! The name Isaiah means “The Lord is salvation.” Isaiah is considered by many scholars to be the most influential Old Testament prophet, as he is quoted directly over sixty-five times in the New Testament and mentioned by name over twenty times, more than any other Old Testament prophet.

    Commentator Jim George notes that it is interesting that the first 39 chapters of Isaiah focus on God’s holiness and justice (the Old Testament has 39 books and stresses these things as well). The last 27 chapters of Isaiah focus on God’s love and grace (a similar theme of the 27 books of the New Testament).

    Did you know that Isaiah’s ministry spanned the reign of four different kings of Judah? He was raised in an aristocratic home and married a prophetess. He, like most prophets, was largely unpopular to the people of Judah, and tradition has it, he died under King Manasseh by being cut in two with a wooden saw.

    What is interesting is that Isaiah knew at the very beginning of his call to prophesy that people would not listen, and it would be a difficult ministry (see Isaiah 6). However, he was still willing to go out and speak for God, regardless if it cost him temporary popularity or comfort.

    Isaiah gives us a great example to follow today. In a post-Christian culture where standing firm on God’s Word can be unpopular, we, like Isaiah, still need to answer God’s call. When he asks, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?,” just like Isaiah, we need to say, “Here I am, Lord, send me!”

    As we read through Isaiah this summer, let’s make it our aim to get to know God even better. In addition, let’s commit to living boldly for God and answering His call, just like Isaiah did.

    One simple way that we can answer God’s call and proclaim His truth is through supporting Vacation Bible School. VBS is the most fruitful evangelistic event that we have. Make sure to stop by the VBS table in the Welcome Center and figure out a way to support our kids, whether it be through volunteering that week or helping with supplies. And of course, we all need to be in prayer for that week!

    Preschool Care Needed

    You should see the smiles on kids’ faces when they come to play with their friends at church! A few are even sad to leave our church when it is time to go home! Do you want to be part of caring for these little ones? If you can give your time to care for preschoolers during one worship service each month, please contact Kathy (kathy@feefeebc.org). We need you! You will be doing a great service for our families and for your church!

    WE ARE HOSTING VBS AND SPORTS CAMP THIS YEAR! Yay!!!

    July 26-30 is VBS Wilderness Escape from 9:00 a.m. to12:00 p.m. We still have a few unique spots open for God to use you to help kids see how God guides and provides. If you are interested in volunteering, email Kathy at kathy@feefeebc.org or call the church office. Thank you for picking up supply donation slips.  Donate or purchase the item(s) on the slip of paper and return to church by July 5. Lots of hands are needed for a successful VBS; sign up today! Please pray for the volunteers and kids as all the details fall into place.

    Sports Crusaders Basketball Camp is also July 26-30 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

    In 2019, 4 children came to know Christ through our basketball camp! What a tremendous ministry this is for our kids to enjoy and know Christ in a fun and unique way. As we host these phenomenal college students who are coaching, we have a few needs that you can help out with!

    • Bed & breakfast (2 homes would be great!)
    • Gifts cards and/or cash for meals
    • Prayer for crusaders and children who attend camp

    Register on our website at feefeebc.org/sports-crusaders or feefeebc.org/freevbs. We can only accommodate 40 kids for basketball camp, so register early. (The same registration form can be used for both events).

    Family Swim Night

    The very next week after VBS we are hosting a FREE Family Swim Night at the Bridgeton Municipal Pool on August 6 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

  • Bible Study Corner – Vol. 61, No. 12

    Adult Bible Study classes are meeting each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. Every class is meeting in person except for one.  We have classes using traditional Lifeway literature, video driven classes, and even one that discusses the Bible readings we have done each week in Isaiah. If you haven’t already, come join us. Don’t know where to go? Find a staff member or Gloria and they can help you. Hope to see you this Sunday!

    While our regular Wednesday evening classes have wound down for the summer, we still have some daytime options for you! A group led by Linda Bramstedt on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until noon, and the Facebook live study of Isaiah on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.

  • Prime Time – Vol. 61, No. 12

    Our next event is at the church on Tuesday, June 22 at 11:30 a.m. We will have sandwiches and dessert in the Dining Room followed by the movie, Ruby Bridges. This movie is the “true story of one little girl whose strength and dignity during the racially charged 1960s helped changed history.” The cost for lunch is $6.00.

    The senior council met a few weeks ago and planned activities for July, August, and September. I still need to verify all the dates, but I can promise you a Saturday evening of games, watermelon, and homemade ice cream; a trip to the Churchill Museum in Fulton; guest speakers; a trip to Casey, Illinois; and the Amana Colonies. Details will be in the next Forerunner.  For now, put these two July events on your calendar:

    • Saturday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. we will enjoy homemade ice cream, watermelon, and games! Bring your favorite game and we will provide the food! Cost is $5.00.
    • Monday, July 26 at 9:00 a.m. we will leave for a day at the Churchill Museum in Fulton. Cost for the Museum is $9.00, $3.00 for bus ride, and buy your own lunch.

    Are you having a great start to the summer? Hope you are getting back into the habit of coming to church and Bible Study each week. It is so good to be connected in corporate worship and studying together. In keeping with our mission of building our lives on Jesus and pursuing the good of your community, I hope your class is finding ways to minister in our church and community.

  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 61, No. 12

    “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose,” (Romans 8:28).

    What a tremendous claim Paul makes in this verse! He does not say, “We know that in some things,” “most things,” or even “joyful things” but “ALL things.” This promise spans from the very smallest detail of life to the most important, and from the most humbling of daily tasks to God’s greatest works of grace performed during a crises.

    Paul states this in the present tense: “God works.” He does not say, “worked” or “will work.”  It is a continuing operation.

    We also know from Scripture that God’s “justice  [is] like the great deep” (Ps. 36:6); at this very moment the angels in heaven , as they watch with folded wings the development of God’s great plan, are undoubtedly proclaiming, “The LORD is righteous in all His ways and loving toward all He has made” (Ps. 145:17).

    Then when God orchestrates “all things…for the good,” it is a beautiful blending. He requires many different colors, which individually may be quite drab, to weave into the harmonious pattern.

    Separate tones, notes, and even discords are required to compose melodious musical anthems; a piece of machinery requires many separate wheels, parts, and connections. Once part from a machine may be useless, or one note from an anthem may never be considered beautiful, but taken together, combined, and completed, they lead to perfect balance and harmony.
