  • Prime Time, Vol. 64, No.12, December 2024

    I love Christmas!  I love the festivities, the good cheer and the lights.  If you do too, please plan to join me on Wednesday night, December 18 for a trip to Three Kings Restaurant and a walk around the Garden Glow at Missouri Botanical Gardens.  This trip will definitely get you excited about Christmas.  The bus will leave church at 4:15 pm.  We will go to Three Kings Restaurant first.  3 Kings supports local farmers and features wings, burger, slads and appetizers at moderate prices.

    When we finish eating we will head for the Glow.  It could be cold so dress accordingly.  Wear walking shoes if you want to see the entire exhibit which will be over a 1 mile walk.  The price of admission to the Garden Glow is $16 for seniors unless you have a garden membership.  There are vendors with hot chocolate, places to roast s’mores and incredibly beautiful lights.  Hope you will plan to attend.

    The senior council will be meeting this month to plan January, February, and March but at this time, those events have not been scheduled.  If you would like to be a part of the senior adult council, please let Gloria know.  We meet every 3 months to plan events and you will be asked to help with the preparations of in-house meetings with lunch.  Thanks for your consideration.

     

  • Family Front, Vol. 64, No. 12, December 2024

    October 27 was a big day for our church! Thanks to everyone who took part from providing the candy to participating by decorating a trunk, to greeting people to leading a game. God used us to meet our community in a great way. THANK YOU for praying and for your participation!

    December 6 is our Parent’s Night Out for parents of kids age birth through 5th grade. Cost is $5 per child that can be paid at the event. Drop off is 5pm and pick up is no later than 9pm. A small change is that you will need to provide supper for your kids. Send a lunch box meal or pick up something fast food on the way.  We will provide drinks and a snack later in the evening. We need volunteers to care for kids, helping kids to ‘shop’ in the Christmas store for their family. If you cannot volunteer for that night, maybe you can donate new items for the store? You will find a donation box in the Welcome Center to put your donated items. Please provide new items for men, women and children. The kids can shop for free for their parents and siblings. Sign up is a MUST by Dec. 1 and you will find the signup sheet in the Connection Center. Thanks so much for your support of this event.

    Most of you know it takes many hands to have a God-honoring Children’s Ministry. We have some openings that need adults to help make these ministries to our families successful and safe. None of these are hard and some are just once a month. It just takes willing individuals to be used by God to love our kids.

    2 more adults each Sunday for preschool worship care (serve 1/month)

    KidsZone helpers (1 adult to assist the leader each Sun. 1/month)

    1 more adult to help a child on Wed. nights to learn their scripture (each week)

    If you can serve, please talk to me. God can use you in a wonderful way!

    Upcoming Activities

    We are racing towards the holiday season and family and holiday activities tend to ramp up at this time.   To help with this, we will slow down the Prime Time activities for November and December and just have one activity each month.

    On Monday, November 18, we will go to the St. Louis Science Center and watch Train Time: Climb Aboard.  They have billed it as the biggest adventure on wheels.  We will experience what it is like to be on a giant freight train traveling across America.  Tickets are $9.50 for seniors.  Lunch was planned for Zia’s but it is closed on Monday so we will go to a St. Louis favorite – Ragazzi’s.  It is under new management and is receiving great reviews.  Sorry about no Missouri Bakery and Zia’s – maybe next time!

    Our last adventure of the year is the Garden Glow at Missouri Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, December 18.  The bus will leave church at 4:15 and we will eat at Three Kings before the Glow. Three things to consider:  1. It is the middle of December – dress accordingly.  2.  It can be a lot of walking if you want to see the entire exhibit. 3.  It is at night.  If you don’t like to drive at night, ask someone who does if you can ride with them.  In spite of these precautions, this may be one of the best Christmas exhibitions in the area and is worth doing some pre-planning.

    Wednesday Night Activities for kids began September 11 at 6pm. We are having a great time! If you have an hour on Wednesday nights, we would love to involve you in helping our kids learn scripture!

    I’m A Christian Now class will begin October 6. This is for kids (with a parent) who have made a profession of faith in Jesus. In this class, we discover what the Bible says a Christian is, what the Lord’s Supper and Baptism is and is not, what is the Church and how I can serve, and how to grow as a Christian. If you know of a child who has not had this class and have received Christ already, I would love to talk with them and include the family in this class.

    October 27 is a big day for our church! We are going to have a Trunk or Treat/Fall party to welcome our community. We plan to have something outside to attract families then have trunks down the alleyway and in the back, and games and other activities inside gym. This will be a churchwide event to involve all. If you cannot be there, your job will be to provide candy.

    Needs for this event:

    • decorated trunk and provide candy for your trunk
    • provide candy
    • run a game
    • engage people in conversation
    • manage food (popcorn, hotdogs and cotton candy)
    • help with parking and activities and point people toward back and gym

    We may even have judging opportunities for trunk and booths. We hope you will invite your neighbors, friends and family to join us to host our community.

    Bible Reading Plan

    I know that many of you have been faithful reading through the entire Bible with me over the last 4 years starting in January 2021 and ending the last day of December of 2024.  I think it is important to read Scripture together as a church.  It is a great way to share and learn with others in the church about what God is showing us through Scripture that makes us see how good He is and how much he loves us.

    As we wind down this plan, I have been led to develop a plan for 2025 that will take us 1 chapter (or portion of a chapter) each day chronologically through the New Testament.  I look forward to talking with you about how the 4 Gospels fit together in time order.  I also look forward to reading the letters to the churches as they intersect with events  in Acts.  Ask God to start preparing your hearts for this new method of reading Scripture.  Just maybe, like the disciples returning to Emmaus, Jesus will explain “what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself.”  Luke 24:27b. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

    Prime Time

    ATTENTION:  DATE AND LOCATION CHANGE. On Monday, October 14 at 10 a.m., we were scheduled to board the bus for Grant’s farm.  BUT THAT CAN’T HAPPEN. GRANT’S FARM IS OPEN TO TOURS ONLY ON THAT DAY.  Consequently, we will go to the Missouri Civil War Museum at Jefferson Barracks on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10. The cost is $9 and lunch will be announced on the sign up sheet.

    On Monday, October 28, we will go to the Summit Fall Market in Kirkwood at 10 a.m.  At the market shed, you will find great produce, local foods, candy and treats and a great selection of seasonal décor.  There will also be pumpkins, mums and more. The bus will leave at 10 a.m. and lunch will be at Billy G’s.

    Look for details in the next forerunner for our trip to the Omnimax and Zia’s in November and a night time trip to Missouri Botanical Garden for Garden Glow in  December.

     

  • Family Front, Vol. 64, No. 9, September 2024

    Wednesday Night Activities for kids begin September 11 at 6pm. We are doing something new! Third through 5th graders will now be RA (Royal Ambassadors for boys) or GA (Girls in Action for girls). We will still be learning Bible verses, studying God’s word, playing games, the focus being on missionaries and what God is doing around the world.  We will meet from 6:00-7:30pm each Wed. night of the school year. I am so thankful for the men and women who have stepped forward to lead these classes.

    Kindergarten through 2nd graders will continue in Awana Sparks just as before.

    Thanks for sending your kids to this weekday disciple group. We love seeing our kids grow in their faith and have fun with their friends.

  • Prime Time, Vol. 64, No.9, September 2024

    Wow.  Summer is almost over.  Kids are back in school.  But the seniors still get to have adventures.  Fall is a time for outdoor fun and our next four activities involve some time outside.

    On Friday, September 13, we will head up the River road to Pere Marquette for a fabulous fried chicken family style lunch at 10 am.  Everyone will get 2 pieces of chicken, and family style mashed potatoes, gravy, cole slaw and corn.  Your lunch price will include a drink of tea or coffee and dessert.  The price will include tax and tip and should be around $20.

    After lunch, you can go for a walk, sit outside and play games or cards, or just sit and watch the river roll by.  Sign-up in the connection center.

    On Thursday, September 26, we will go to Rainbow ranch at 10 am.  Rainbow Ranch is a 170 year old farm in Nashville, IL.  They have llama, alpacas, donkeys, sheep, goats, deer, potbelly pigs, peacocks, ducks, horses, a zebra, a zedonk and even camels and kangaroos.  You know you want to pet them!  I have contacted them and we will either have lunch first or the tour first.  If you’re an animal lover, this trip is for you.  The cost of the farm is $15/person plus your lunch.

    THANK YOU

    By the time you read this VBS and Sports Camp will be over. Thank you Church, for your support of this event that brings children to know Jesus better or to start a relationship with Him. Thank you to our people that served during the event. Forty-nine of our adults and youth, including a few folks from outside our church, joined us in our missions to reach our community. Thanks everyone for your prayers.

    Promotion Sunday for our preschoolers, children and youth is August 4. Please be in prayer as we enlist new teachers and serve our families through our Sunday School hour. We will provide donuts for families at 9:15 as they bring their children to their classes and meet the teachers.

    Wednesday Night Activities begin September 11 at 6pm. We are doing something new! Third through 5th graders will now be Kids in Action (or KA). Our 4-5th grade kids have really enjoyed this so we are incorporating 3rd grade into that as well. Our kids have been unsuccessful in committing to the requirements of Truth in Training in the Awana club. We want to see them succeed. We will still be learning Bible verses, studying God’s word, playing games but adding the feature of KA to include missions emphasis—seeing what God is doing around the world. Kindergarten through 2nd graders will continue in Awana Sparks just as before.

  • Prime Time, Vol. 64, No.8, August 2024

    We are going to avoid the heat and stay in the building for our activities in August.  On Wednesday, August 14, we will have lunch and watch the movie of the Sight and Sound production of Moses.  A lunch of sandwiches, chips and desert will be served at 11 with the movie immediately after.  Our movie was filmed in front of a live audience.  Nearly 2 million people have seen it on stage and you will get to watch it on our giant screen in the dining room.  The cost of lunch is $7 and the movie is free.

    Adult VBS will be in the Rafters August 26-29 from 9:30-noon.  This year we will dive deeply into the book of James.  We will study what the half brother of Jesus has to tell us about walking in the footsteps of Jesus.  Jesus’s own brother was transformed from unbelief to leadership in the early church when He had a face-to-face encounter with the Risen Lord.  James instructs us in how to live and serve like Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit in the only book in the New Testament written only to believers. Join us for this exciting study.
