  • Family Front, Vol. 66, No. 8, August 2026

    We are at the tail-end of summer, and that means everything is gearing up for the upcoming school year. Our classrooms here will feel that change too. Some of our kids are being promoted to their new classrooms on August 2nd. This is such a wonderful way to let them know that they are growing, not only in age, but in expectations as a member of our church family. These changing expectations are also one of the ways that we are partnering with families in raising their children with biblical truths. As Christians, we are expected to be functioning members of the body of Christ. I know this sounds a bit silly, but we do sometimes need a reminder that a magical transformation does not happen on kids’ 18th birthdays. We need to train them up along the way, gradually increasing expectations as their development allows, and letting them know that we rely on them for this body to function as Christ has taught.

    Some of these expectations are:

    KidsZone kids (K-3rd) sit in the service for the singing portion of worship. Once they leave for lessons, the kids’ teaching is over the same scripture as the sermon that morning. This prepares them for digging into scripture just like the adults.

    All grade school children sit with their families on the fourth Sunday each month- with sermon notes and fidgets provided by the church. Children who accurately complete their notes are entered for a prize that is given out to one winner the following 4th Sunday.

    4th & 5th grade students join their families for all services to learn how to fully participate in a service. Sermon notes are provided each Sunday, and a prize will be available for each student who completes them accurately. Sermon notes can be brought to Mrs. Rachel Shanley at the end of service in the Coffee Cafe.

    4th & 5th grade students and their families are highly encouraged to serve the church: First Impressions Team, Tech Team, Choir, Kids Team, Kids Tech Team.

  • Senior Adults, Vol. 66, No. 8, August 2026

    August is going to be a busy month for Senior Adult ministry.

    Saturday, August 1, from 9am until noon is our church-wide FREE garage sale on the parking lot. We give away gently used items to our community as well as backpacks with school supplies to the school-aged kids.

    If you plan to give away your stuff at the FREE Garage Sale, we ask that you stay with your table and greet our neighbors and invite them to church. Then pack up anything left over and haul it away. Thanks for being part of greeting our community.

    August 10-13 is our Senior Adult VBS. Ron Zamkus will be leading “Authentic Fruitful Faith” out of 1 John. We will meet from 9:30 – 12noon including a snack break. Sign up in the café if you plan to attend. There is no cost for this event.

    August 26 we are headin’ to Casey Illinois to see “Big Things Small Town.” There are 38 items that are ‘BIG’ and others that are ‘Certified World’s Largest.’ We will leave church at 9:30am and enjoy lunch together there and then see the sights. We will return by 4pm.

    IT IS VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL MONTH! VBS is a huge undertaking and I would love your support in whatever form that takes.

    • Decorating the worship center after Church, July 12th
    • Purchasing requested snack items for kids attending VBS
    • Purchasing requested craft items
    • Volunteering during VBS (snack prep, crew leader, station helper, camp helper)
    • Praying for everyone volunteering and attending- without God leading, it is just another summer camp.

    We will also be having a family fun night Thursday, July 16th at 6pm for VBS families to attend- and we want church members there too! This is such a great ministry opportunity to meet people in our community. Not only that, but we will have hotdogs, chips, drinks, and Kona Ice available. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this event!

    Once we are on the other side of VBS, it will be time to get ready for the kids’ Promotion Sunday where Sunday School classrooms will change with some kids moving up to the next class. This will happen on Sunday, August 2nd. Not too long after that, it will be time for fall programming to begin so stay in touch for those updates.

  • Senior Adults, Vol. 66, No. 7, July 2026

    I’m so glad to be serving with our senior adult group. If you are 55+ (or feel 55+) come along and join us for our activities. If you are already part of this great fellowship, bring a friend to our activities.

    Here are events for July:

    On July 1st, the bus will leave at 4pm for dinner at Rigazzi’s on the Hill then to  concert at Mo. Botanical Gardens. You will need to bring a lawn chair or blanket, bug spray and a drink if you want. The band is the US Air Force Band of Mid-America. Concert is from 7-9pm and it’s free. Check the café for sign up list and other info.

    July 29 we will meet at the church at 10am to pack school supplies into backpacks for our school supply/backpack giveaway on August 1. After we finish packing the backpacks on the 29th, we will go to lunch. I hope you will be part of the Free garage sale on our parking lot on August 1. It’s a great way to meet our community.

    I always look forward to VBS for our seniors. This year a friend of mine, Ron Zamkus, will lead a study of 1 John, ‘Authentic Fruitful Faith,’ August 10-13 from 9:30am -12 each day. It will be a great week to dive deep into God’s Word.

    On Wed. August 26 we plan to go to Casey IL to see all of the ‘Big Stuff’ around  town and eat lunch there. Watch for further news on this event.

    Psalm 119:15-16 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your Word.

    We don’t have any kids’ events scheduled for June and that is intentional. June is so busy with outreach through our mission trip in Alaska, community for our youth with their week-long trip to Indiana, and transitional with all our families moving from school to summer schedules. June is also major preparation time for our upcoming VBS in July!

    Speaking of VBS, we will soon have supply and prayer lists out, so be looking for those. Additionally, we just made a change to our Thursday night plans for the conclusion of VBS- we will now be grilling hot dogs and handing out nachos & chips instead of requesting food trucks. If you are a  foodie and willing to help with concession-stand type food, that would be amazing. Come let me know! For VBS itself, I am still looking for several volunteers to be crew leaders. If you would love to get to know a small group of kids and participate in a fun and energy filled week, please come find me. I can guarantee that you won’t be upset that you did- you might be tired, you might seek solitude after, but you will receive such joy that those things won’t matter nearly as much as you might think!

    Church, please continue to pray in earnest for our kids, their families, our volunteers/staff, and our programming.

    I’m sorry to say that our planned June 9 Katy Trail Tram trip has been cancelled. It was sold out even before we could get a call in for reservation. So we will try again later (probably will be September).

    Upcoming events:

                      June 19 – Grant’s Farm – leave 10am (lunch there)

    July 1 – dinner on the Hill, leave 4pm; Mo Botanical Gardens Concert of the US Air Force Band of Mid-America 7 pm (free to get in at 5:30). Take lawn chair and drinks if you want.

  • Family Front, Vol. 66, No. 5, May 2026

    Here are our May Events:

    May 10 Mother’s Day, we’ll celebrate all women 18 and up with a special gift of recognition. This will also be our parent-child dedication Sunday. We will also honor our graduates and remember those who’ve gone to be with Jesus this past year. Come join us as we celebrate these members of our church family.

    May 15th Outdoor Movie Night in the Courtyard. We will be playing David from Angel Studios. Popcorn & Lemonade will be provided! Bring other snacks & lawn chairs/blankets for an enjoyable evening under the stars.

    After May is June and after June is July… and July means VBS!  Mark your calendars now!

    This year VBS will be held Monday-Thursday, July 13-16, 9am-12pm with the option to add afternoon jiu-jitsu camp from 1-4pm. We will conclude the programming with a fun family evening Thursday, July 16, 6-8pm. There will be food trucks, games, fellowship, and a chance for the kids to display some of what they learned during the week.

    This event is huge. It has so many moving parts. It can make such an awesome impact on kids’ lives. But in order for it to succeed we need all hands on deck. Please pray about where you might be able to serve. Additionally, please plan to attend Thursday evening’s event to meet with families from our community and enjoy a time of fellowship and celebration over a fun and full week!

    In conclusion, church family, please pray for our kids’ programs. We are growing and while that is absolutely fabulous it also means that we need to be oh so intentional about pointing each and every one of these children and their families towards a faith in King Jesus. Pray that the Holy Spirit works as only He can and that hearts turn from the world and toward the gospel of Jesus Christ.

    In the month of May we will be experiencing history. May 1 we plan to visit St. Genevieve National Historical Site, museum and welcome center and lunch. We will leave at 10am from church. Signup in the café.

    On Wed., May 20 we plan to visit Fort de Chartres in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois to tour an 18th century restored French fort. We will have lunch at Lisa’s Market Street Grille. We plan to leave church at 10am. Sign up in the café.

    Summer outings this year:

    Tuesday, June 9 we are taking an open-air tram tour on the Katy Trail from St. Charles to Machens to see parts of the Katy Trail most people do not get to see. Buses will leave at 9am for that outing. Deadline to sign up for this event is MAY 4 because it fills up quickly. Sign up sheets are in the café.

    We are also looking at a date to visit Grant’s Farm and see the Clydesdales. Look for more info on these outings in a future Forerunner.

    Kids’ ministry doesn’t have any events on the schedule this month but that doesn’t mean things aren’t happening. Behind the scenes we are working on our New Christian class, remodeling the infant room, and gearing up for VBS. Additionally, we are exploring different options that might better meet the needs of our kids during Wednesday night programming this fall. So, while it may look calm on the surface, don’t let that trick you into thinking things aren’t in motion!

    We also need you, the church body, working behind the scenes through prayer. Pray for our programming, our kids, our volunteers. Pray for the families in this church and the families that could come to be in this church. Pray that the Holy Spirit moves through this church and through our kids’ programs in a mighty way.

    Our senior adult group has been busy going and ministering. We received a lovely thank you note from Missouri Baptist Children’s Home for the White Out Collection. View it in this Forerunner.

    Coming up:

    (Act on this quickly) Movie: A GREAT AWAKENING is showing Easter weekend at Marcus Theater, St. Charles cinema. Our senior adult group would like to go together on Saturday, April 4. However, the showtimes and ticket sales did not become available until March 27. The time for the showing we will attend is on the sign up sheet in the café. Here is a synopsis of the movie: A Great Awakening tells the true story of an unlikely friendship that resulted in 1 of the most defining moments in American history. In a miraculous turn of events, one of Whitefield’s closest friends and greatest promoters becomes Benjamin Franklin. Franklin discovers true liberty cannot only be written into law – it must be awakened in the hearts of the people.  The first 28 names on the signup list will be able to ride the buses. All others will need to drive themselves. We will plan to get a meal together either before the movie or after depending on the time.     On Monday April 20, we plan to visit and tour our Missouri State Capitol Building in Jefferson City, MO. It is worth seeing! We plan to leave church about 8:30am and return about 4:30pm. Lunch will be at a Jefferson City restaurant prior to our reservation for the tour at the capitol. Tour is free.  As always, I enjoy serving with you!
