  • Music Musings – Vol. 62, No. 17

    Christmas Choir Rehearsals

    Christmas Choir rehearsals will begin on September 18 from 1:15-2:45 p.m. in the Choir Room. You will be assigned music scores at our first rehearsal. Rehearsal recordings that highlight individual parts will be available. Recordings without highlighted parts will also be offered. If you haven’t sung for a while – no worries. Your vocal muscles just need a little exercise. It will come back to you – kind of like riding a bike – you never forget!

    Impact Week Hymn Caroling

    You may still sign up in the Welcome Center to participate in our “Friendship Choir” that will be hymn caroling on Wednesday, September 14 and Thursday, September 15, from 12:00-5:30 p.m. You may choose to participate one or both days as we go hymn caroling for some of our homebound folks. We will meet at the church at noon both days and take our bus to each home so we can all stay together. We will simply sing a few favorite old hymns and invite them to sing along.

    In the past it has been a delight to see the expressions of joy on the faces of those who have missed singing these old familiar favorites. Trust me! You will be blessed!

  • Chi Alpha News – Vol. 62, No. 17

    Impact Week & Redemption Ranch Kick-Off Celebration

    Impact Week is quickly approaching, and this is one of my absolute favorite times of the year, so I am beaming with excitement right now! Don’t forget that on September 11, we will be out at Redemption Ranch for one worship service at 11:00 a.m. as we kick off this amazing week. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on for service, and be sure to bring a hat or umbrella, sunscreen, swimsuit, yard game, and a friend to this super fun event. There will be lunch too!

    Also, be sure to sign up for an Impact Week project during that week. There are sign-up sheets in the Welcome Center for you to check out, but you can also create your own service project with your family or friends! Chi Alpha will be kicking off our fall schedule that Wednesday, September 14, and we will be taking part in our own service projects that night, including filling our Action Packs with the donation items you all brought for the Underground Church event this summer. So, make sure that you join us that night from 6:00-7:30 pm for the project, where we will also have worship and fun games as well. I can’t wait to see how you all will serve during Impact Week!

  • Prime Time – Vol. 62, No. 17

    By the time you read this, you will have already celebrated Labor Day with picnics, swim parties, and BBQ. While I am looking forward to a day off and celebrating with my friends, I realized I had no idea why and what I was celebrating so I googled it!

    I found out that it was an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of the American workers.  The holiday began in the late 1800s when labor activists pushed for a holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

    So let me just take a minute to thank all of you for your contributions whether it be inside the home or outside in the many occupations represented by this body of believers. Thanks for all you have done to make this country a land of opportunity.

    Speaking of opportunities, (nice segue right?), don’t forget our trip to tour Holy Family Catholic Church on September 12, and our movie day here on September 28. The sign-up sheets are in the Connection Center.

    Hope you had a great 3-day weekend with lots of rest and relaxation so we can serve our community during Impact Week September 11-18.

  • Bible Study Corner – Vol. 62, No. 17

    We have something for everyone during the Bible Study hour on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. Ask Gloria to help you find the perfect place.

    September 14, all Wednesday night activities will resume but, on that night, each group will be doing an Impact Week project. Actual Bible Studies will begin on September 21 at 6:00 p.m., following dinner at 5:00 p.m. in the Dining Room! Don’t forget to sign up for dinner in the Connection Center!

    All groups meet from 6:00-7:30 p.m. AWANA meets in their respective area, and Youth Small Groups meet in The Rafters. Adult opportunities include Bible Study and Prayer time with Pastor Zach in the Dining Room, and Women’s Bible Study in the Fellowship Hall with Gloria. Pastor will be teaching the book entitled Praying the Bible. The women will be studying Job by Lisa Harper, with video lessons and discussion.

    Start the fall off right with the various Midweek Activities!

  • College & Outreach – Vol. 62, No. 17

    “If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his tongue, his religion is useless, and he deceives himself,” (James 1:26).

    An uncontrolled tongue is often the source of conflict between people. A mother’s critique of her daughter’s clothing choice causes bitterness to brew between them. A coworker’s harsh evaluation of your performance stirs division among your department. When an outfielder drops the third pop fly that game, a coach’s unbridled tongue can destroy the player’s confidence and love for the game.

    Later in this letter, James instructs the church to “consider ships: Though very large and driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So too, though the tongue is a small part of the body, it boasts great things” (James 3:4-5a). Like a spark that sets the forest ablaze, an uncontrolled tongue will reap havoc on your life.

    What hope is there for the believer? “If my tongue is an uncontrolled fire, then what can I do?” First, pray to the God of all language to bridle your tongue and direct you in what to say. As you think and say things that tear others down, confess to the God who forgives and endeavor to only speak words that raise up others. Second, listen far more than you speak. Common sense tells us that the body has two ears and one mouth, so we listen twice as much as we speak. If your tongue is running wild, keep it contained within your mouth and use your ears instead.

    I wish to echo the author, that “with the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in God’s likeness. Blessing and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way” (James 3:9-10-). As we honor God with our tongues, we will be quick to see people around us as his image-bearers. How can I bless God and yet curse man made in his likeness? May it not be so among his people.

    Mobile Market

    We love partnering with the St. Louis Area Food Bank to get free groceries into the hands of families in need in our community. Anyone is welcome to come get groceries on the second Monday of each month, at 10:00 a.m. (until the food runs out).

    Backpack Ministry

    It’s back-to-school time! One of the more rewarding ministries at Fee Fee Baptist Church is our Backpack Ministry. This ministry provides a bag of easy-prep foods for school-aged children in our school district. We want to make it as easy as possible for these kids to eat a nutritious and filling meal when they aren’t at school. But we can’t do this without you, Church! We need donations of granola bars, snack crackers, macaroni & cheese, fruit cups, applesauce cups, canned pasta, rice cups, single-serve snacks or meals, and other easy-prep meals. You may leave these items in the Donation Center in the section marked “Backpack Ministry.” Alternatively, you can have these items shipped from any big box store to the church:

  • Music Musings – Vol. 62, No. 16

    Looking for Baby Jesus

    As you know in our Christmas presentation of the Nativity we always want a live baby for the part of baby Jesus. We like to have a tiny baby about 3 months or a little younger. We would not necessarily need the same baby for each performance. The presentation dates are Friday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, December 17 at 3:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, December 18, at 3:00 p.m. Please let me know if you might know of a baby who would be in an age range to represent baby Jesus.     Seeking and Praying for Laborers: In This Case – SINGERS

    Please come forward and join us in singing. We always need singers committed to the main choir. However, there may be some who want to “test the waters” and do a short stint to see what it’s all about. Choose a four-week window to participate and sing in worship when you feel comfortable. We welcome you on your terms. Just show up on any Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room. Still others may wish to participate in special events such as the Christmas choir.  Please consider being a “laborer” in the harvest.  Singing will give you an opportunity to share His love.

  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 62, No. 16

    From Bob Goff’s “Live In Grace, Walk In Love: A 365-Day Journey”

    “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid,” (John 14:27).

    When I was a boy, comic books came onto the scene and started to get big. Characters like Spiderman, Batman, and Wonder Woman lived in a world where evil popped up just in time for another episode. No matter which sinister villain seemed to be giving evil an edge, the hero was always more powerful than the obstacles in front of them. Evil has a way of looking like it’s going to win—right up until it doesn’t.

    While these comics were fantastical, every enduring story reminds us of a truth: even when it seems like hope has lost the lead, redemption is where the story is headed. Just before Jesus went away for a while, He told us we would face trouble in this world. He said there would be times we’d want to give up and seek comfort somewhere else.

    But Jesus also told us He would be with us and not even death could separate us from Him. He’s living proof that the God of the universe is more powerful than any of the obstacles we face. The obstacles look different for each of us, but we live in a world where fear shows up unannounced and tries to steal our hope. Those are the times we have to remember the power accessible to us.

    Are you in a difficult time? Love will show you the way through it. Do you feel like you’re up against seemingly unbeatable forces? Remember love will win in the end. Our hope isn’t in our ability to overcome but in God’s ability to redeem it.

    Don’t’ let the circumstances you’re facing do all the talking. Listen to the God who already won it all with His love. As you listen to God speak into your difficult time, what do you hear Him saying?

    Starting Off the New Year Right

    The beginning of every school year often brings a lot of different emotions. For students, teachers, and parents alike, it brings the feelings of excitement for what is ahead, anticipation for new adventures, nerves of the unexpected curveballs that you are bound to face, fear of failure, stress about the deadlines and amount of work, and confidence that it will be the best year yet. All these emotions – both positive and negative – are natural, normal, and to be expected, and are healthy to experience. They keep you sharp, alert, and ready for whatever life throws at you. The best part of all of this, is we know and serve a God who brings these moments and emotions to us. So, this year, be thankful to God when life is going great, and you are achieving at a high level, but also, remember that God is with you when life gets hard, you become overwhelmed, and you feel like giving up. One of my favorite verses during school was 1 Corinthians 10:13 from the GNT version, which says: “Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will now allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.” So, stay firm, stay connected to your faith, and stay connected to our community! We are here for you and cheering you on this year!

  • A Word From Pastor Zach – Vol. 62, No. 16

    Church Family,

    The day that this article is getting published, August 22, is a big day in our community. It is the day that Pattonville ISD starts for the fall semester! When it comes to Bridgeton, our schools are some of our biggest mission fields. Please join me in praying for our schools and that God will capture the hearts of the next generation.

    Additionally, we had Promotion Sunday yesterday here at Fee Fee. This the is Sunday that our kids and students move up to their next class and get to meet their new teachers. In addition to this being a Sunday that marks the beginning of a new semester for our students, it is also the beginning of a brand new series and emphasis that we are going to walk through as a church.

    This new series is called “Love Where You Live.” Over the next few weeks, we are going to unpack Matthew 9:35-38 and examine how we can truly demonstrate to our community that we really do love where we live. As part of the vision of our church, we talk about how we want to pursue the good of our community for the glory of God. This series is going to give us practical ways to love our community.

    We are going to look at the importance of changing our perspective, changing our prayers, and changing our purpose as we seek the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to be God’s ambassadors and live out the calling of the Great Commission.

    In the midst of this series, we are going to have our fourth annual “Impact Week.” This is a week that we take part in multiple mission projects in our community to tangibly demonstrate the love of Christ. To kick of this special week of local missions, we are going to have an off-campus worship service and fellowship (and Potluck lunch with BBQ!) at Redemption Ranch on Sunday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m.

    Mark your calendars for this incredible week and make sure you come out to Redemption Ranch on September 11! We won’t have anything on campus that Sunday. Instead, we are going to have a great time of food, fellowship, and worship out at the Ranch. Just like last year, we will also get to celebrate new life through baptism at Redemption Ranch’s lake!

    Will you join me in praying for our church as we journey through this initiative of being the hands and feet of Jesus and demonstrating clearly to our community that we love where we live?
