  • Prime Time, Vol. 64, No.8, August 2024

    We are going to avoid the heat and stay in the building for our activities in August.  On Wednesday, August 14, we will have lunch and watch the movie of the Sight and Sound production of Moses.  A lunch of sandwiches, chips and desert will be served at 11 with the movie immediately after.  Our movie was filmed in front of a live audience.  Nearly 2 million people have seen it on stage and you will get to watch it on our giant screen in the dining room.  The cost of lunch is $7 and the movie is free.

    Adult VBS will be in the Rafters August 26-29 from 9:30-noon.  This year we will dive deeply into the book of James.  We will study what the half brother of Jesus has to tell us about walking in the footsteps of Jesus.  Jesus’s own brother was transformed from unbelief to leadership in the early church when He had a face-to-face encounter with the Risen Lord.  James instructs us in how to live and serve like Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit in the only book in the New Testament written only to believers. Join us for this exciting study.

     

  • Bible Study Corner, Vol. 64, No. 8, August 2024

    Bible Study

    During September our Bible studies will start up on Wednesday, September 11.  Not all of the topics have been announced yet but the women will be studying the book of Ephesians with Jackie Hill Perry, Jasmine Holmes and Melissa Kruger.  Women of all ages are encouraged to participate.

    Awanas will also start at this time and will begin at 6 pm.

    If anyone is interested in teaching a men’s group, please contact Gloria.  I have some great resources for you to look at.

    Free Market

    The free market is approaching quickly.  This is the time each year when we go through our closets, houses and garages to find items in good shape to give away at our annual Free Market.  Gather your stuff , park your car and church will provide you with a table to display your household items, furniture, strollers, toys, children’s clothes and anything else you might donate to our community.

    Last year we gave away over 150 backpacks loaded with school supplies.  These can be picked up at the free market.  To do this, however, we need donations of backpacks and school supplies.  School supplies include but are not limited to the following:

    Wide-ruled notebook paper

    Composition notebooks

    Number 2 pencils

    Crayons

    Colored pencils

    Markers

    Pencil sharpeners

    Pencil cases

    spiral notebooks

    erasers

    folders

    paste

    glue sticks

    ink pens

    scissors

    highlighters

    binders

    dry erase markers

    Please turn in backpacks and supplies by August 2.  You can bring them to church, have an order delivered by WalMart or I will be your personal shopper if you would rather give a donation to the church office.  Thanks for your support of our community through this ministry.

    July 4th

    The church offices will be closed July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

    Fee Fee is looking for a Church Drummer!

    We are looking for someone who can play Contemporary and Traditional       worship music. Rehearsals are on Mondays at 6pm for 30 mins and you will play on Sundays for worship service at 10:30 am.

    Red Cross Blood Drive

     On July 18th, we will be hosting another blood drive through Red Cross from 11am to 4pm in our gym. All donations must be scheduled in advance. Or you can go to feefeebc.org/blooddrive and follow the instructions there to register.

    Bus Drivers Needed

     If you would be interested in driving a church bus for Sunday morning worship or Prime Time events, please contact Vance in the church office.

    National Ice Cream Month

     In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month

    and the third Sunday of the month (July 21 this year) as National Ice Cream Day. This gives a whole new meaning to an Ice Cream Sunday. Enjoy a bowl of your favorite flavor on the 21st  or any day during July.

    REMINDER

    There will be no Wednesday night activities this summer. We will return to our regular Wednesday night schedule on September 11th.

  • Chi Alpha, Vol. 64, No. 7, July 2024

    It’s July and that means the youth is going to MFUGE! MFUGE is a mission trip summer camp put on by Lifeway. In the mornings we will be doing missions projects, and, in the evenings, we will have worship sessions. Please be praying for the group as we serve. Pray for opportunities to share the gospel, for softened hearts, and to grow in Christ as we grow together as a group.

    Also, we are still looking for people to serve as we go into the new school year! The youth are the future of the church and want to be discipled! If you love Jesus and want to serve, we would love to partner in ministry with you.

     

  • Family Front, Vol. 64, No. 7, July 2024

     VBS/Sports Camp, July 22-26

    SCUBA is the theme of our VBS this year. Kids will dive into friendship with God from 9am-12noon. If you plan to serve and have not contacted either me or Mrs. Kathy, please let us know as we may still have a few spots open. You can pick up info in the Wecome Center or register online at feefeebc.org/freevbs. We will be decorating starting on Tuesday July 16th through Sunday, and would appreciate any help available. Even if you can’t help us through volunteering, you can always help us through prayer. Please pray for the volunteers who will serve that they will serve with love and patience, and please pray for the kids who come that they will hear clearly of God’s love and salvation for them.

    We also plan to have a volleyball camp 1:00-4:00pm in the afternoon of that week. God has provided a Sports Crusaders team to lead this; homes to house them, volunteers to assist. Now we need cash or gift cards for the team to eat that week. Please give those donations to me or Mrs. Kathy, or you can mark clearly on an offering envelope ‘meals for Sports Crusaders’.

    Our Children’s Ministry is still in need of some volunteers to lead KidsZone on the first Sunday of each month and when we have a 5th Sunday. Mrs. Kathy can provide materials, and all you have to do is prepare to lead our kids. We also need hostesses in preschool during worship. Let me or Mrs. Kathy know if you are interested in leading with our preschoolers or children, and we can provide you details.

  • Music Musings, Vol. 64, No. 7, July 2024

     Thanks to all choir members who participated in the Noble concert on June 9.

    We had some beautiful arrangements to sing and although they were challenging, they were well worth the effort. It was a beautiful event and a privilege to be included.

    Be sure to save the dates for future concerts in our summer series.

    July 7 – The Lesters

    The Lesters are well known in the St. Louis area.  This gospel singing family is in its 90th year of ministry with members representing the 3rd and 4th generations.

    July 14 – Doug Mickan

    Doug is a ventriloquist with a crazy cast of characters using comedy to teach Biblical truths.  This will be a very entertaining concert.

    August 4 – Charles Graham

    Charles is a minister and gospel singer who has sung in Europe, Africa and the Americas.  He has now returned to his hometown of Dermott, Ark where he

    serves his community by providing drama camps and educational opportunities.  You will want to hear his amazing life story.

    All concerts are free and start at 6:00 p.m.  Ice cream will be served afterward.

    Invite your friends and neighbors. A love offering will be collected to support these ministries.

    Bible Study Corner

    There is a place for everyone in Bible study on Sunday morning at 9:15. Our First Impressions team can help you find a great class when you meet them in the Welcome Center.

    If anyone is interested in starting up or joining a small group or Transformation group, please let Gloria know. I would love to see some small groups getting started again. We do have a small group that meets at church every other Thursday morning at 10 am, a Bible study that meets on Tuesday at 10 am and some T-groups that could use another participant or 2. Let Gloria know if you are interested.

     

  • Prime Time, Vol. 64, No.7, July 2024

    On Wednesday, July 10, we will go to the History Museum by Forest Park to see the new additions to the 1904 World’s Fair Exhibit.  While this exhibit has been at the museum for several years, it has been revamped.  The exhibit, artifacts and images will bring to life a more complete picture of the fair showing it from the perspectives of the organizers, the visitors and even the workers.  The bus will leave at 10 am and lunch will be after at Joey B’s.

    Then on Monday, July 29 we will travel to Breeze, IL to the Excel Bottling Company to go on a tour and hear about its exciting origin.  In 1936, Edward, “Lefty” Meier received a reward for catching a bank robber.  He used his reward to purchase a used bottling machine.  Using his wife’s grandmother’s house, they have expanded into a bottling plant.  Excel is one of the few independent family bottlers in the nation. The bus will leave at 10 am. After our tour, we will have lunch at PJ’s Diner.

    Hope you all are having a good summer.  We are asking that if you know of one of our members in the hospital, please let the church office know, so a staff member, a member of their Bible Study class and a deacon can visit.

    Keep up in your Bible Reading program this summer.  We will be reading the letters to the churches at a pace that you can keep up with!  Talk with others inside and outside of the church about what God is showing you through his word.

    Building on the Foundation

    I know nothing about construction. If you’re building a house and coming to me for advice, something has gone terribly wrong.

    However, even with my limited knowledge regarding construction, I have learned one essential truth about buildings: the foundation matters. The quality of the construction is heavily dependent upon the sturdiness of the foundation. If I ask you for information about your home’s foundation and you respond with, “We skipped that step,” then don’t be surprised when I decline every future dinner invitation. A flimsy foundation renders a building uninhabitable, and we should not be surprised when the structure crumbles to the ground.

    Similarly, a church that does not take the time to center its entire operation on a firm foundation is destined to fail. We can enlarge the building, expand the programs, and engage the masses, but if we organize our church on shaky ground, then the entire edifice will collapse.

    Many foundations seem stable. We can build our church on the foundation of relevance. We can organize ourselves to be as culturally engaging as possible. But when the winds of culture change and society rejects the core tenets of our faith, we will have to choose between the gospel and our relevancy. If we choose to abandon the gospel and remain firmly planted on the foundation of relevance, then we will be left with a popular but powerless church.

    We can build our church on the foundation of social progress. We can strive to meet the needs of the people around us and to create a more just society for our neighbors. But when we maximize our efforts to help the poor, the oppressed, and the hurting, we could actually achieve every goal we set—and the people around us would still be lost and without hope.

    We can build our church on the foundation of tradition. We can attach ourselves to the past, clinging to “the way we used to do things.” But when the decades pass and the community changes, we could find ourselves as members of a dying church with a glorious past and a non-existent future.

    Rather than building our church on these flimsy foundations, Ephesians teaches us that the church is “built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone” (Eph 2:20). We must build our church on the Word of God, centered ultimately around the good news of salvation in Jesus. Our only hope to thrive as a body of believers is to be a church in which Christ remains at the core of all we do and our thoughts and actions are filtered through the lens of Scripture. That is a foundation upon which we can confidently build.
