  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 62, No. 8

    Taken from Corrie Ten Boom’s “Faith, Hope, and Love” YouVersion Plan

    “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God,” (Hebrews 12:2).

    How we can long for the “good old days”. Everything was so much better and more predictable. What was normal and taken for granted in those days is not that obvious anymore. It could make us sad and homesick, and we could tend to give up and become passive and depressed. In Ezra 3, we can read that the elderly people are crying as the temple is rebuilt, remembering the glory and grandeur of the former temple that has been destroyed so many years ago.

    After World War II Corrie could have been discouraged, giving up, without any hope for the future. Her father, Casper ten Boom, and her sister, Betsie, both had been killed in 1944. And the happy days of before, in their warm and cozy home, had forever been gone. She could have looked back, remembering and longing for the good old, and so much better times before the war. Realizing it would never come back she could have sunk into a great depression and sorrow. But instead, she looked forward with hope, fixing her eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of her faith.

    Hope is not the same as longing and desiring. We can long for things that are impossible to fulfill, such as, a season that will not come back, a journey we cannot afford to make, longing for a loved one who has passed away. Hope, on the contrary is based on reliable facts. There could have been periods and events in our life for which we look back with unfulfilled, craving and longing. But the better thing to do is to look forward, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Then we can go forward, with courage and hope. That is what Corrie, and many with her, did after the war, building on the foundation of Christ and His Kingdom. Romans 5:5 says: “And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us”.

    Church Workday

    It’s that time of year again when flowers begin to peek out of the dirt after their long sleep, trees sway in the wind waking up their roots, and the grays and browns of winter turn into little green beginnings of leaves or buds of color. The amazing gift of creation of nature is not only for us to enjoy but to offer a pretty setting for the church experience of others.

    If you would like to get your hands in a little dirt to plant some flowers, do some digging, or other tasks needed, please join us on Saturday, April 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the church courtyard. Bring your garden gloves, your favorite garden tools (shovels and rakes could be handy), and we’ll have donuts to start our time together. Water will be provided, too.

    Mobile Market

    We love partnering with the St. Louis Area Food Bank to get free groceries into the hands of families in need in our community. Anyone is welcome to come get groceries on the second Monday of each month, at 10:00 a.m. (until the food runs out).

  • Family Front – Vol. 62, No. 8

    Family Connection Sunday

    Dr. Richard Ross will be our guest for Family Connection Sunday on April 24. He is a teacher, author, speaker, and conference leader. His mission is: “By the Spirit—live, teach, speak, and write to see Christ’s kingdom come through teenagers and their parents and leaders—for the glory of God.” On April 24 we have Dr. Ross preaching in both services, teaching to parents and grandparents during the Bible Study hour at 9:45 a.m., then a lunch discussion with parents and students grades 5-12. It will be a great day!

    Mother/Daughter Spa Day

    DATE CHANGE: Mother/Daughter Spa Day that was scheduled for May 14, is rescheduled to Saturday, June 4, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Come prepared to pamper yourself and do a craft. We will have fun with hair chalk, nail salon, jewelry making, chalk couture crafting, photo booth and more! Cost is $5.00 per person. Mothers and Daughters of all ages are invited!

    Father/Son Fishing Day

    On Saturday, June 18, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Busch Wildlife. Put it on your calendar and plan to spend a fun morning fishing. If you need fishing equipment to use, let Kathy know; we will have extra equipment available.

    VBS 2022 & Soccer Camp

    REGISTRATION IS OPEN for VBS and Soccer Camp for kids that have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade. The cost for this week of fun is FREE for VBS and $55 for Soccer Camp. No limit on registration for VBS. However, there are limited spaces available for soccer camp, so go to our website and register early: www.feefeebc.org/free-vbs-fee-fee. One form can be used for both events. Turn Preschool forms into the church office or Kathy.

    VBS Volunteers

    Put July 18-22 on your calendar for our 2022 VBS called “MOMUMENTAL – Celebrating God’s Greatness.” There will be many different areas to help. If you have soccer skills or are athletic, there are volunteer spots available for Soccer Camp also. VBS will be in the mornings and Soccer Camp will be in the afternoon. Email or talk to Kathy (kathy@feefeebc.org) if you are interested in serving!

  • Chi Alpha News – Vol. 62, No. 7

    Thank You!!!

    Wow…where do I even begin…Thank you, Church, for all of your support and prayers over the last couple of months in preparation, but especially over the last week as we enjoyed our annual DNOW Weekend! This weekend was one filled with lots of laughs, fun games, amazing worship, acts of service, genuine conversation, connections with new friends, opportunities to grow closer together, and an amazing display of the Gospel. All of this was made possible by you, Church. Whether you donated financially to sponsor a student, donated supplies, or prayed for a student, YOU partnered with God to make this weekend happen! I encourage you to talk with a student and ask them about the weekend, and what they experienced. Please continue to also pray for these students over the next couple of weeks. Seeds were planted this weekend that may take time to root. Pray that God will speak clearly to them, and that they will surrender to His will. We want to continue to see lives change for the Gospel!

  • Prime Time – Vol. 62, No. 7

    Easter is right around the corner. When is the last time you dyed Easter eggs? Well, do I have an opportunity for you! On Tuesday, April 12, we will have lunch and then dye eggs and make 20 Easter Baskets for the children at Loaves and Fishes. We need your help to not only put them together but also to provide items to put in them. Easter candy, stuffed animals, small toys like Matchbox cars, Lego people, dolls, bubbles, small story books about Jesus or a small Bible – well, you get the idea!  Let’s bless some kids who are in a place in life where they might feel a little hopeless. Let’s share the hope with them!

    On Tuesday, April 26 we will go to Oakland House in Afton for a house tour and luncheon. The cost is $22. I do not have a departure time yet but will let you know. We must secure our reservations first. We also must pay at the time of making reservations. If you sign up, you will be paid for, but you must bring cash or a check to Fee Fee with you that day. In other words, if you sign up and have not cancelled by 4/15, you must pay whether you go or not, because the church will have already paid for you.

    I hope you are preparing your heart for Easter. Invite your family and neighbors if they do not have a church that they attend. Pastor Zach will have a clear Gospel message and maybe, just maybe, God is counting on you to bring that person to church that day to hear the very good news!

  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 62, No. 7

    “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for… By faith Abraham, even though he was past age-and Sarah herself was barren- was enabled to become a father because he considered Him faithful who had made the promise.” (Hebrews 11:1,2,8).

    Sometimes Hebrews 11 is called the Faith Hall of Heroes. Corrie ten Boom is often called a faith hero as well. But one could wonder if she would have called herself a faith hero. Yes, a faith warrior, a faith witness, even a tramp for the Lord. But she most probably would have refused to receive credit for being a hero.

    In her first book, ‘Prisoner and Yet…’ she writes: “We do not need great faith, we need faith in a great Lord”.

    Faith is not a feeling, neither is it the intellectual acceptance of facts and truth. Faith is a dependence on God, through acts of obedience and trust. We can do this because He has offered us a solid foundation of grace, forgiveness, loving kindness and power. And He is an ever-present Help in trouble.

    For four months Corrie was in solitary confinement in the Scheveningen prison. The threat of interrogation, torture and feeling desolate were continually present. One day, she literally stands with her back against the prison wall and shouts in despair: “Lord I’m not strong enough to endure this. I do not have enough faith”. Then her eyes are drawn to a tiny ant that hurries to a small hiding place: a crack in the wall to get safety from the water that is flowing over the prison floor. The Lord speaks to Corrie and says: “Watch the ant, hurrying straight to her hiding place. Corrie, do not expect anything from your ‘great’ faith, it is as weak as an ant. I’m your Hiding Place, the rock-solid ground on which you can stand. You can always, immediately and everywhere, come to Me, your Hiding Place. Then you will have peace and you can face the unknown, trusting God. I will never leave you, nor forsake you”.

    You can learn more and more not to trust in your own faith, facts and feelings, but to only trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Feelings will come and go, and they can deceive you. But the Lord and His Word are reliable, you can always stand on Him and His promises.

  • A Word From Pastor Zach – Vol. 62, No. 7

    Church Family,

    You might have noticed a theme through my last few articles that is now about to reach its crescendo: Easter is coming! It is now April, and we have the incredible opportunity to get people connected with our church during our Easter services on April 17.

    As I shared earlier, we are going with the theme of “Hope.” I can’t wait to preach about the Living Hope we have since our Savior conquered the grave! Also, we are bringing back our hot Easter breakfast in the gym (which will be between our two services during the Bible Study hour). Please don’t come alone on Easter Sunday. Invite family, friends, neighbors, or co-workers to come with you!

    Also, we want to be really strategic about encouraging any guests we have on Easter to come back again. With that in mind, I wanted to share with you the exciting news of our “Family Connection Sunday” on April 24, the week after Easter. We have found that many people, saved or lost, are concerned about being better parents and grandparents and making sure they are making a difference in the lives of their children and grandchildren. The whole purpose of this special Sunday the week after Easter is to equip families to reconnect with each other and form deeper relationships.

    We are bringing in a guest speaker, Dr. Richard Ross, from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, to come and lead this special Sunday. Dr. Ross has decades of experience in connecting and ministering to families. He will be preaching a message entitled “The Hearts of Parents and the Future of Their Children,” from Psalm 110:12-4 in both of our services.

    In addition, he will do a special training session for parents and grandparents during the Bible Study hour, entitled “How to Make a Spiritual Impact on Your Children or Grandchildren.” Finally, we are going to have a luncheon for parents and their kids in 5th-12th grade. After a quick meal, Dr. Ross will lead a 50-minute session called “Restoring Heart Connections between Parents and Teenagers.” He puts parents and their kids knee-to-knee and he guides them through what to say to each other. It is powerful. Tears are common. Dr. Ross has shared with me that parents talk about this session for years!

    So many people want to be equipped to be a better parent and grandparent. It is our prayer that Dr. Ross and our Family Connection Sunday will be a great encouragement to our members and will also be a way to get our guests on Easter to want to show up the following Sunday. Will you join me in praying that God will move and work in a fresh way in our church and community through our Easter and Family Connection Sunday services?

  • Featured Article – Vol. 62, No. 7

    “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place,” (Hebrews 10: 19-20 NLT).

    Our generation lacks a sense of wonder and reverence toward God.  We want to bring God down to our level. He is God! As His children, we have direct access to Him. We ought never to forget that this access was purchased with the precious blood of His only Son. No one who truly understands this ever enters God’s presence without a sense of holy awe. No one who comprehends the incredible price paid at Calvary ever takes his relationship with God for granted.

    We will never truly understand God. To begin to understand the way He relates to us, we first comprehend a true sense of His holiness and His demand for holiness among His people. If we are in God’s presence, we are on holy ground! We must never act as if it were God’s purpose to make us successful. It would be preposterous for us to become impatient when God does not answer our prayers when and how we think He should! He is God, we are not!1

    Soon we will celebrate Easter and the resurrection of our Lord. As this day approaches, meditate on the price Jesus paid to give you access to the Father. As you prepare to celebrate “He is Risen!”, revisit the cross and witness your Savior suffering for you. How priceless God’s gift of salvation is!

It will be a great day!
