  • Community Connection – Vol. 60, No. 11

    Blood Drive Results

    Thank you to everyone that came out and donated blood at our Blood Drive on May 13! We ended up being able to collect 20 units of blood. The American Red Cross representative said that because each donation could help up to three patients, these pints of blood could help up to 60 lives! The Red Cross was also very excited that there were 10 new donors from this event. Your willingness to show love to our community in this way is greatly appreciated. We are currently working on scheduling another blood drive later in the summer. The dates will be announced as soon as they are scheduled.

    Food Donations

    We have had such big success with our Mobile Markets that we’ve had a lot of people asking if they can contribute food. The answer is yes…sort of. The Mobile Market food is provided by St. Louis Area Foodbank. However, we are continuing to have more and more people ask for food donations from the church outside of just the Mobile Market. We believe that will continue to rise. We would love to have food donations given to our food pantry to be able to meet all those needs. If you would like to donate food directly you can bring it to the church during office hours or you can give money online through the church website. Food insecurity was already a problem in our area, and this is going to continue to increase as a need due to the current state of things. As always, thank you for your support!

    St. Louis Area Food Bank Mobile Market

    At our first Mobile Market we had over 130 cars come through our lot, which represented over 500 people that received food that day! Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ by providing for the needs of our community. Remember we are going to do this every 2 weeks for the time being. The next dates for the Mobile Market will be on Monday, May 18, and Monday, June 1. On Mobile Market Mondays, from 10:00 a.m. until noon, we will distribute food to people in a “drive thru” format to keep social distancing in place. If you or someone you know need help providing food for their family, then this event is for you!

    Mission Trip Updates

    Out of an abundance of caution regarding COVID-19, all of our summer mission trips (Dominican Republic trip, youth trip to North Carolina, and Windermere trip), have all been cancelled. This was not an easy decision at all but we, and all of the organizations we were working with, felt that this is the wise decision.  Please still be praying for all of these groups and the work that they do. Also, let me take this opportunity to update you on the Dominican Republic Water Project. The well has been dug and initial equipment has been put in place! A couple months ago we sent a payment to have the building constructed.  Because of all the COVID-19 concerns, the construction has been put on hold for the time being. We have one final payment to send to pay for the rest of the equipment within the building. If you would still like to give to support missions this summer, you can give towards the “DR Water Project” to help pay for that equipment. We are almost at the finish line for this project and I can’t wait for the day when our partner village is finally drinking clean water!     Blood Drive on May 13

    Donating blood makes a big difference in the lives of others! On Wednesday, May 13, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. we will be hosting a blood drive through the American Red Cross. In order to comply with social distancing restrictions, all donations MUST be scheduled ahead of time. Simply go to the Red Cross website (http://www.redcrossblood.org), and use the Sponsor Code FeeFeeBaptistBridgeton (no spaces), to find our drive. You can also search by zip code and date to find it. Then schedule your donation for a specific time that day. You may also call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to schedule your donation. The drive will be held in the Family Life Center. Everyone donating can drive around to the back of the church and park in the lot by the gym and enter through the gym doors. On the blood drive page on the church website there are some helpful tips about donating including who can donate and how to donate.  If you have any questions about any of this please contact Andrew at andrew@feefeebc.org.

    St. Louis Area Food Bank Mobile Market

    We have started a new partnership with the St. Louis Area Food Bank to become a mobile market! One of the struggles people are facing right now is being able to get adequate food for their families. Our partnership will help to alleviate that. Every other Monday from 10:00 a.m. until noon we will distribute food to people in a “drive thru” format in our parking lot to keep social distancing in place. The next scheduled Mobile Market at our location is May 18. If you are interested in helping organize and distribute the food, contact Andrew at andrew@feefeebc.org. Please help us get the word out to those in need in our community about this opportunity!

    A Missionary Story

    As I was trying to think of creative ways to show the love of God during this quarantine, I came across this story from the International Mission Board about a missionary family in Colombia. I hope it’s encouraging to you and challenges you to think about how you can reach those around you:

    Sarah McNeill sensed a city-wide quarantine coming. Her preparatory grocery run included school supplies since her kids would transition to learning at home. She put printer paper and poster board in her cart and, with an idea blooming, added yellow, blue and red tissue paper. The McNeills live on the 11th floor of a 13-story residential building. Like many in Bogotá, Colombia, their neighbors are fearful of COVID-19. As Sarah conversed with one concerned neighbor, she was able to show the difference knowing Christ Jesus personally makes in times of crisis. “There were tears in her eyes. It was like she didn’t think I understood,” Sarah explains. “We do understand, and we are trying to take precautions, but we also just have hope and we trust that God is in all those details.” With neighbors in fear, Sarah resolved to spread hope.

    The three youngest McNeills made homemade cards for each household in the building. They included Philippians 4:6-7 and signed their family’s name with their apartment number. They also used the tissue paper Sarah purchased to make thirteen flowers in Colombia’s national colors. Using fishing wire, they hung them in each floor’s stairwell with a message of hope. Five-year-old Holly said, “We want to help others not be so afraid and not be so sad about the coronavirus.” The McNeills’ joy grew when they heard neighbors’ delighted exclamations at the surprise flowers or saw their cards displayed on doors. Some neighbors even wrote back. “I was sad, and I felt strange all day,” one wrote. “But I arrived home and I saw your card. Thank you, neighbors, for this. Thank you for hope and the happiness of my heart.”

    Two months ago, the McNeills started a small group in their home. It usually takes a long time to build rapport to the point that a neighbor will join in Bible study. Through Sarah’s response to COVID-19, “we took a step forward with all of our neighbors.”

    Easter is coming!

    Easter is coming next week, April 12!  While you may not be able to invite people to join you for worship in person, we still want you to invite people to church online! There are a few ways you could do this:

    If you are not on Facebook, ask your friends and family to watch the service live on the church website (www.feefeebc.org) along with you. Then afterwards, call them or text them and have a conversation. Ask questions like: Did you enjoy the service? Which point of Pastor Zach’s stood out the most to you? Which song was your favorite and why?

    If you are watching on Facebook and want to invite specific friends or family members, you can host a watch party. While you are watching the video, hit “Share” and at the bottom of that list is “Start a Watch Party.” Then you can have a private conversation just with your friends and family members that join you to watch.

    If you don’t want to host a watch party, you can also hit “Share” and at the top of that list select “Share Now (Public).” Then any of your friends who watch can join the conversation with everyone else on Facebook that is watching.

    However you do it, invite people to join you for worship this Easter. Even though you can’t meet in person, the Gospel message can still be shared! Most importantly, be praying for the lost this Easter season. As this virus causes more fear in our world, people desperately need the hope that comes through salvation through faith in Jesus.

    How to be missional and isolated

    I know that in all the chaos and strangeness of the Coronavirus effects, many people are stuck inside on their own. It’s easy in that situation to feel very limited including in our ability to reach people with the Gospel. As I thought about this, I thought about Paul being isolated in prison. But in that state he didn’t say “woe is me” and do nothing. He realized he is still called to proclaim the Gospel and writes letters to churches to encourage them, challenge them, and let them know he was praying for them. He spoke with the guards around him about the Gospel. He still reached people with the Gospel during his isolation. Amid our own isolation we are still called to reach people with the Gospel – we just have to think creatively about how to do it. Here are some ideas: 

    • Pray. No matter what your situation or limitations you can pray. Pray for our world, healing, wisdom for leaders, the lost, healthcare workers, your neighbors…the list could go on forever. Take quality time to pray.
    • Contact those in your life that are on their own or may battle with loneliness. Call them, send a text or an email, Skype them, or write a letter. Let them know you were thinking about them. Continue to check in with the people in your life.
    • If you are younger and physically healthy, provide for your neighbors who aren’t. Ask them if you could go grocery shopping for them or pick up medication. Ask parents who are working if you could watch their kids for a day. Order a dinner to be delivered to the family with the parent whose hours have been cut back at work.

    These are just some quick ideas, but I encourage you to think creatively and find ways to show the love of God to those in our world who are hurting and afraid today. Church, just like Paul, our isolation doesn’t have to keep us from declaring the love of God by loving the people around us.

    Week of Prayer for North American Missions – March 29 – April 4

    During these coming weeks there will be plenty of North American Missionaries that are working extra hard to try and reach people in new ways. They could definitely use our prayers. March 29 through April 4 is a Week of Prayer for North American Missions. You can download the prayer guide on the “Downloads” section of our website. Then Sunday, April 5 we are taking a special offering for the Annie Armstrong Offering – all the money given to this offering goes towards North American Missionaries. Please be praying for our missionaries!

    Week of Prayer for North American Missions – March 29-April 5

    We have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus, taking love throughout the continent and shining light into dark places! We can do this by praying for the lost, giving to Gospel ministries, witnessing to those around us, and reaching out in compassion. March 29-April 5 is a Week of Prayer for North American Missions. You can pick up a prayer guide at the church to help direct you as you pray. These missionaries in the prayer guide represent thousands more who benefit from your prayers and sacrificial giving. Then on Sunday, April 5 we will be taking a special offering for the Annie Armstrong Offering – all the money given to this offering goes towards North American Missionaries.

    Loaves and Fishes – April 21

    Every month different groups from our church act as the hands and feet of Christ by providing dinner one night for Loaves and Fishes Homeless Ministry. We are in need of a group to bring dinner on Tuesday, April 21. Would your Bible study group be willing to serve that night?  Contact Gloria or Andrew or call the church office if you’d like to sign up for that night or if you have questions.

    New Ministry: Room at the Inn

    Fee Fee has a new partnership in 2020 with Room at the Inn Homeless Shelter! This is an incredible organization that has been serving women and families in need in St. Louis County since 1988. You can read more about them on their website: roomstl.org. Our partnership with Room at the Inn will include housing some of their guests for a night, every other month, starting in February. We will pick them up on that Friday night, bring them to our church, give them dinner, host some fun games and entertainment, and provide them a warm, clean bed to sleep in for the night. In the morning we will bless them with breakfast and take them back to the Room at the Inn facility. This is going to be an incredible chance for us to “pursue the good of our community,” (our new mission statement). Please be praying for Room at the Inn Shelter, this new ministry partnership, and that the Gospel would be seen through our loving interaction with our guests!

    Tom and Lela Warner Short Term Missions Offering

    On Sunday, February 23, we will have a special offering for our Tom and Lela Warner Short Term Missions Fund. In both worship services that morning we will take a special collection for this fund which supports our members going on mission trips each year. Over the years these funds have been used to send our people all over the country and world to share the Gospel message. This year the fund will be helping our members share God’s love in North Carolina, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Missouri.  If you feel led to give towards this fund, simply write on your offering envelope or on the memo line of your check, “Short Term Missions.” Thank you for your continued support of missions both locally and internationally!

     

  • Community Connection – Vol. 60, No. 01

    Have you set resolutions for 2020? In the midst of making resolutions to lose weight or cancel debt or travel the world, can I encourage you to make a different kind of resolution: Get more involved in missions! There are thousands in our neighborhood, and billions around the world, that have not experienced the salvation of the Gospel message of Jesus. What can you do in 2020 to help them hear?  You could give money to several different places – the Annie Armstrong offering, the Lottie Moon offering, the Tom and Lela Warner fund at Fee Fee, or many other organizations that declare the Gospel near and far. You could go on a mission trip to Windermere with Fee Fee, to Mexico with Wheels for the World, or on your own. You can also find a local ministry here at Fee Fee or in our community that “pursues the good of our community for the glory of God,” like Meals on Wheels or Loaves and Fishes. One thing all of you could do is commit to pray every day for missions: local organizations, the work at Fee Fee, missionaries around the world, other countries like the Dominican Republic and Ukraine, and the lost in the world.  How are you going to be more involved in missions in 2020?

  • Community Connection – Vol. 59, No. 26

    I am always impressed with Fee Fee’s willingness to support the Gospel being spread near and far! 2019 has been no exception to that. We continued in some great, loving, established partnerships and also explored some new exciting opportunities. Let me go over some quick stats for you of how you supported missions:

    • You raised over $3,000 to provide clean drinking water for our partner church in the Dominican Republic. In 2019, we made progress with the project: the initial hole was dug, the pipe was installed, the water was tested, and the first round of pump equipment was bought. Please continue to pray towards the completion of this project in 2020.
    • We sent 60 people on mission trips to Dominican Republic, Houston, Ukraine, Missouri, Mexico, and Windermere.
    • We sent over $12,000 to the North American Missions through Annie Armstrong giving and over $16,000 to International Missions through Lottie Moon giving.
    • Once a month we provided dinner to Loaves and Fishes Homeless Shelter and built relationships with the clients there.
    • We did our first Impact Week where we gave 455 volunteer hours to our surrounding community.

    This is not an exhaustive list but gives you a picture of some of the ways God used us in this past year for His glory. Thank you for lovingly caring that the Gospel message is shown and told to those in our neighborhoods and around the world. I can’t wait to see how God uses us to continue to share the Good News in 2020!
