  • Prime Time – Vol. 61, No. 16

    Summer is quickly passing us by. I’m so thankful for the cooler weather this week and I’m sure you are too. Our summer schedule of activities is winding down, so if you have suggestions for what to do this fall, please let me know.

    Our next activity is Adult VBS and I am leaning toward a study of Elijah, because Elijah’s dependence upon God seems very relevant for today. But you will have to come to find out! Join us August 23-26, (Monday-Thursday) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We will have snacks, and hopefully some music, and a great time of fellowship and Bible Study.  We will go out to lunch together on the last day after our study. Hope you can attend and bring some friends.

    In September, we will do a day trip to Casey, Illinois to see all the BIG things. Check out their website, www.bigthingssmalltown.com, if you are wondering what this is. As usual, you will need to sign up. We also have the trip to the Amana Colonies, which is an overnight trip from September 30 through October 1. Our bus driver and guide for the trip might have a conflict on those dates so we might need to change the dates. I will have definite info and pricing in the next Forerunner. Thanks in advance for your patience as details are being worked out.

    Have you started reading through the Pentateuch with us? By the end of next year, we should have read through the ENTIRE Bible together! We would love for you to join a T-group or the Grounded Bible Study group on Sunday morning if you would like to talk about what you are reading! Pick up your reading plan in the Welcome Center or download from our website.

  • Bible Study Corner – Vol. 61, No. 16

    It is so good to see our Sunday morning Bible Study numbers climbing. We had 166 involved in Bible Study last week. I hope you are a part of it. We are currently looking at Bible study in conjunction with our mission statement of BUILDING and PURSUING. Bible Study does a great job of helping us build our lives on Jesus, BUT we need to see how we can use this tool to pursue the good of our community.

    Beginning September 8, our Wednesday night activities will begin again. Adults will have the option of attending the Pastor-led Bible Study and prayer time. Other options include our Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies, AWANA, and Youth small groups. I hope you will attend one of these groups as we jump into fall!

    Loaves and Fishes

    Want to serve your community in an amazing way? Sign up as a group (Bible Study group, T-Group, small group, etc.) to feed the residents of Loaves and Fishes and serve together and pursue the good of the community! There are a maximum of 29 residents. We have faithfully fed the people there for almost two years on the third Tuesday of the month. Our next date is August 17 and right now, we do not have any volunteers. ☹ Thanks for your consideration and your willingness to serve. Let Gloria or Andrew know if you would like to provide this meal for August.

     

  • Community Connection – Vol. 61, No. 16

    Back to School

    School is starting very soon! I know that makes some kids excited and some kids nervous. Families will be doing a lot of prepping for going back to school. One thing I would encourage you to do to help prep your students is to pray with them and for them. Pray that they will do well this year, that they will have good friendships, and for their safety at school. Most importantly, though, pray that God will use them to glorify Him this year at school.  Talk to your kids about different ways they can point people to Jesus at school.

    Going back to school also makes every teacher experience stress. They need to be prayed for also. On Sunday, August 22, we will be having a special prayer time in both services for our students, teachers, and school staff.  Make sure to join us that day as we lift our schools up in prayer!

    Upcoming Mobile Market Dates

    We definitely still have needs in our community, and we are glad to partner with the St. Louis Area Foodbank to help those needs! Anyone in the community is welcome to drive through our parking lot on the following Mondays from 10:00 a.m. until noon (or whenever we run out of food) to have FREE groceries put in their car!

  • Devotional Corner – Vol. 61, No. 16

    Taken from L.B. Cowman’s “Streams in the Desert,” Zondervan Updated Edition

    “He has given us his very great and precious promises,” (2 Peter 1:4).

    When a shipbuilder erects a boat, does he do so only to keep it on the scaffolding? No, he builds it to sail the seas and to weather the storms. In fact, if he does not think of strong winds and hurricanes as he builds it, he is a poor shipbuilder.

    In the same way, when God made you a believer, He meant to test you. And when He gave you promises and asked you to trust them, He made his promises suitable for times of storms and high seas. Do you believe that some of His promises are counterfeit, similar to a life vest that looks good in the store but is of no use in the sea?

    We have all seen swords that are beautiful but are useless in war, or shoes made for decoration but not for walking. Yet God’s shoes are made of iron and brass, and we can walk all the way to heaven in them, without ever wearing them out. And we could swim the Atlantic a thousand times in His life vest, with no fear of every sinking. His Word of promise is meant to be tried and tested.

    There is nothing Christ dislikes more than for His people to publicly profess Him and then not use Him. He loves for us to make use of Him, for His covenant blessings are not simply meant to be looked at but should be appropriated. Our Lord Jesus has been given to us for our present use. Are you making use of Him as you should?

    O beloved, I plead with you not to treat God’s promises as something to be displayed in a museum but to use them as everyday sources of comfort. And whenever you have a time of need, trust the Lord.

  • Family Front – Vol. 61, No. 15

    VBS and Basketball Camp

    We are having a wonderful week at Wilderness Escape VBS and Sports Crusaders basketball camp. The kids are having so much fun and learning so much about the attributes of God. Thank you, Church, for providing the resources so we can host such great events for our families. I can’t say enough good things about the volunteers who have given their time in so many ways: helping to set up, leading tribes, doing crafts, teaching and modeling Jesus. They are awesome!  I am excited about next year (after a short rest, of course)!

    Family Swim Night

    Cool off from those hot summer nights at a FREE Family Swim Night at the Bridgeton Community Pool, Friday, August 6, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

    Free Market

    Free Market will be on our parking lot on Saturday, August 7.  Backpacks with school supplies will be available for kids in our community. Please join us as we serve our community at this fun event!

    Bible Study Leader Training

    Attention Teachers: On Sunday, August 8 we will be having a Bible Study Leader Training right after the 11:00 a.m. service. This is a session on how to be the best Bible Study leader you can be. Lunch will be provided as well. Please make your reservation by calling the church office to let us know you are coming.

    Welcome Weekend

    Sunday, August 15 is a welcome event for our preschoolers, children, and youth as they move up to the next grade/department. We invite preschoolers, children, and their parents for a continental breakfast, to give kids an opportunity to see their new classroom and meet their teachers. Promotion day will be August 22.

    “Give praise to the only God. He is our Savior. Glory, majesty, power and authority belong to him. Give praise to him through Jesus Christ our Lord. Give praise to the One who was before all time, who now is, and who will be forever. Amen,” (Jude 1:25).

  • Chi Alpha News – Vol. 61, No. 15

    DNOW

    Thank you so much, Church, for your support of DNOW this past weekend! This weekend was not possible without your generosity, prayer, and support of our youth ministry. We had 30 students this weekend, 11 of which were friends brought by our students. They all learned together about how to live in the world without the filters that the world places on us, and instead how to live more like Jesus. I am so excited to see how God will use this weekend in the lives of our students moving forward!

    Choir Returning to 8:30 a.m. Worship

    Our choir will begin rehearsing on August 2 and will return to lead in worship on September 5. It has been about 18 months since our choir has been “on duty,” and I know everyone will be happy to see them returning to our choir loft to sing beautiful songs of praise and inspiration.

    New Hymn by Matt Papa and Matt Boswell

    Almost Home is a new hymn composed by Irish hymnist Matt Papa collaborating with Matt Boswell from Texas.

    Scriptural basis for the hymn is from Hebrews 11:16:

    “But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”

    The Christian life is a journey toward a place we know in our hearts as home, yet we have never seen or experienced.

    “This song reminds us that we are almost there. Almost to our reward! Don’t drop a single anchor, the opening lines urge us, because this world is not our home. And so, we press on through the doubts and darkness, looking forward to that day when He shall wipe away every tear. On that day, the weak and the strong will rejoice together in our faithful God, the one who brings us home,” – Matt Papa.

    This hymn is set to release on September 10, 2021. You can easily find and hear by keying in – Almost Home by Matt Papa and Matt Boswell.

  • Prime Time – Vol. 61, No. 15

    Don’t forget to sign up for our trip the Churchill Museum in Fulton, scheduled for Monday, August 9.  I have arranged a tour for us at 12:30 p.m. We will eat lunch when we get there at Beks, https://www.beksshop.com which is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in Fulton. You can check out their menu beforehand by going to their website.

    The bus will leave the church at 9:00 a.m. and each person will be charged $5.00 for transportation. Lunch is on your own and the senior price for museum admission is $10. Don’t forget to sign up!

    Our event originally planned for August 25 has been cancelled, so instead we will be having Adult VBS. It will run August 23-26, from 9:00 a.m-11:30 a.m. Mark your calendar, invite some friends, and plan to attend!

  • Bible Study Corner – Vol. 61, No. 15

    Ready for another challenge? I know many of you have been faithful in reading the entire New Testament and Isaiah this year.  We have decided to continue with our churchwide reading plan. We will finish Isaiah on August 6 and will begin the Pentateuch (Genesis – Numbers) on Monday, August 9. We will be reading two chapters a day, Monday through Friday, with the weekends off. This will mean we can complete the first five books of the Bible by the end of the year! I hope you will join us.

    If you would like to talk about what you are reading with others, please let me know so I can either put you in a Transformation Group, or you can get 5 friends together in your own group. They do not even have to be church members or even in this country or state! Get creative and reconnect with some old friends by reading the Bible together!

    Loaves and Fishes – Our church has been feeding the residents of Loaves and Fishes one time a month for the last 2 years, every third Tuesday. What a great way to get involved in serving your community! Your small group, T Group, Bible Study group, or family can take a turn at this awesome opportunity, please contact Gloria gloria@feefeebc.org and let her know.
