To Know Christ

...and Make Him Known

Our mission statement at Fee Fee is “To know Christ and make Him known”.  What does it mean to know Christ?  Knowing Christ goes beyond simply knowledge about Jesus or the Bible or the church.  Knowing Christ means knowing Him personally.  Having a relationship with Him.  Jesus wants us to have a personal relationship with Him.

But there’s a problem – our sin.  The Bible says in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.  Sin means missing the mark or anything in our lives that does not honor God.  Anything in our lives that does not live up to his standard.  When we lie to others.  When we act selfishly.  When we are obsessed with material things.  These, and many more, are all sins that cause us to fall short of God’s standard for us.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

Our sin keeps us from a relationship with God and deserves a punishment.  Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death…”.  So what we earn (wages) from our sin is death.  Meaning that our sin causes us to have the punishment of death and being separated eternally from God.

However, the rest of Romans 6:23 has good news for us!  “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  In order to deal with our sin problem, God has given us the gift of His son’s death on the cross.

God gives us this gift because He loves us.  John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”.  God loved us so much and didn’t want us to be separated from Him eternally because of our sin.  So he sent His Son to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins so that we could have eternal life and a relationship with God.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

So how do we get this gift of forgiveness of sins and eternal life?  The Bible says is Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”  You do not get the gift by working really hard or by doing enough good things or by being a member of a certain church.  We can never do enough to earn forgiveness and eternal life.  The gift comes by God’s grace through faith in his son Jesus Christ.  It comes by admitting you are a sinner, believing that Jesus Christ is God’s Son who has died on the cross and resurrected from the dead to pay the penalty for your sins, and committing your life to follow Him.

You are not saved because of anything you do but because of what Jesus has done.  However, once when you accept his gift of salvation the Bible calls us to commit our lives to Him.  2 Corinthians 5:15 says “And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”  He calls us to give our lives to follow God.  This means choosing to do what God desires not what makes us happy.
